Good morning. Today I want to talk about what avoidance actually looks like from the inside.

For Sophia it was not conscious. It was a set of habits that had built up over years of working around a gap instead of through it.

Small decisions every shift. Who to call. What to gesture. How to manage.

It worked. Mostly.

But it was costing her something she had not fully named yet.

She had tried apps. She had tried to pick up phrases. She had made a real effort.

What she had not found was someone who would help her build the specific conversations she was going to have at work.

That is where we started. Not with a textbook. With her job.

There is a difference between knowing how to order food in Spanish and knowing how to ask a patient where the pain is.

Between knowing how to ask for directions and knowing how to explain a procedure to someone who is frightened.

Sophia had some Spanish. She did not have the Spanish she needed for her actual job.

That is a curriculum problem. Not a student problem.
