If your child comes to you and says, “I’m thirsty”, don’t fix their problem. We want to raise our children to be problem solver. A good response is, “What would you like to do about that?“ If they don’t know how to respond, you can give them some choices. You can say, “You can go get a beverage yourself or if you need help, ask me.“ If our kids bring us problems and we automatically fix them, they will not learn how to be independent and a problem solver. I did this with my kids from an early age and it helped them to think for themselves.
