‼️🔥CERAMICS CLASS ALERT!🚨🏺
Hand-building in ceramics is an amazing way to express yourself! Whether you’re getting to know the material, or have some experience with clay, all skill levels are welcome. My 6-week course, Sundays 9/13-10/18 from 1:30-4:30, will explore fundamental hand building techniques like pinch, coil, and slab building. We will delve into paper template techniques and how to use molds to create functional and/or sculptural forms.

Berkshire Art Center is a beautiful and inspiring place to take an art class, and I am grateful to be teaching there!

Sidebar pottery teacher tangent: You may want to try hand-building BEFORE taking a pottery wheel course. As a ceramics instructor, and giver of demos in the public eye, I have heard SO MANY times that people want to try the wheel. The wheel is highly romanticized as a way to create something, and the reality is that it is humbling and actually kind of hard for most beginners. The true fundamentals of learning about clay as a material come from understanding hand-building techniques, imo. You can get creative with wheel thrown forms too, but nothing beats the possibilities of what you can make with hand building. So if you’ve been saying to yourself “I want to do that” when looking at glossy, highly edited videos of people who make the potters wheel “look easy” (something I’ve heard many times during demos) I humbly suggest, try hand-building first. Also BAC offers one time classes to try the pottery wheel before committing to 6 weeks, which is a great option. I’m not saying don’t take a wheel class, I’m just saying don’t ONLY consider the wheel when thinking about a ceramics class! My upcoming class will be so fun with a focus on expressing yourself!
