Taking a poll: would parents be interested in signing their children up for social skills classes in January ? Classes would be held for 4 weeks and run in length of about 45 minutes.

The Social Skills Connection is looking to re-locate and reopen it's doors! And wants YOUR opinion on what would work best for your child!

We are well into our second week quarantine and self-distancing. I hope we all take some time to check in with ourselves. A mental health check-in is equally if not as important during this time.
If you or your child are struggling (feeling overly tired/maybe more irritable) that should be a cue to do a mental check-in. Take a step back, and go do something for YOU.

How can we do a mental check-in? Do something that "sparks joy"! And by this I mean doing something that makes us happy.

read a book (to yourself, to your pet or to a child)
take a bubble bath
walk the dog (the sun is shining today!)
do a puzzle
drink tea

** if you continue to feel low and unmotivated please feel free to reach-out. I am a certified school psychologist and I am here to help.

Be Well,

Danielle

Tip number 4!!

Cook a meal together.

We always wanted to have more time in the day to do the things that make us happy, and maybe for you that’s cooking! So go ahead try that new dish!

For me it’s very therapeutic to bake or cook something new and yummy! I enjoy seeing people’s reaction of trying my meal!

Cooking with your children even the young ones is teaching them a life skill! And it does not need to be elaborate.

Make eggs!
Pancakes
Mini pizza
Cookies
Chicken nuggets (a real crowd pleaser)

Along with cooking in the kitchen you can also teach how to be safety in the kitchen!

Happy cooking!

Tip number 3!

KEEP MOVING!

I know the gravitational pull to our couch is so strong, but don’t let that be your entire day! Please make a conscience effort to take some time and just move your body.
Kids have ALOT of energy and we need to give them ways to let that out!

Walk the dog or cat! (I’ve heard they have leashes for them too!)
Do a scavenger hunt
Put on some music and dance!
Put that video game devise to use and break out some DANCE DANCE REVOLUTION!
Take a walk around your block
Yoga!
so many gyms are giving people access to online classes! Try one!

Lastly. Be kind to yourself and your children. We’re all in this together!

Tip number 2!

While we are stuck at home and that can seem daunting for some, let’s make it fun! This is our opportunity to teach our little ones a new skill!
Bake cookies
Paint a room
Do a large puzzle
Build a toy chest
Learn a new game

There are so many things we can use this time to be with our kids and learn something new!

Stay positive!
Stay healthy!
