Damn proud!

“It’s hard to sell soda to people who drink pop. You’ve got to know your customer in Marketing.” Lee Manzer, OSU Marketing Professor, Phi Kappa Tau, Beta Kappa Brother, Friend, Mentor, Inspiration…

As a teenager, Lee Manzer hauled prairie hay and stacked bales, making two cents a bale. One day, he took a wrong step and lost his balance. He tumbled backward, hay needles clinging to his body like prickles on a porcupine.

“As I was lying there, this thought occurred to me; I’m going to college.’”

He wasn’t injured, but his realization could have made someone think he was dazed.

No one in his family had finished high school. His father had only four years of formal education. His mother had one.

Yet, the young Manzer correctly forecast his academic future. In fact, he underestimated himself.

With three OSU degrees, Lee Manzer retired as one of the university’s most decorated professors, enshrined in the Oklahoma Higher Education Hall of Fame. He graduated with his bachelor’s degree in chemistry in 1965, his MBA in 1966 and his doctorate in marketing with economics and finance minors in 1974.

At 84, has dedicated half of his life to Spears Business, spending 43 years as a faculty member.

Now, the Professor Emeritus of Marketing will be inducted into the Spears Business Hall of Fame on Oct. 10 in the ConocoPhillips OSU Alumni Center.

Hey President and Rush Chair…

I have been referred to you on the Phi Tau page. I’m trying to reach the Brother in charge of recruiting at Beta Kappa. I have a grandson who is starting at OSU tomorrow. He and I have not talked about fraternities, the fact that I am a member of Phi Kappa Tau, or that I am contacting you.
I don’t know if he would be interested in joining or has ever considered it. I can say that his family is probably not financially inclined for him to join. That said, I’m just wanting him to know he has a place to go and can have friends in Beta Kappa.

I am Jon Thompson. Initiated spring 1976 at Gamma Xi (East Central University-Ada). More recently Chapter Advisor from 2009 through 2020 and Alumni Advisor through 2024.

His information: Tatum Wilk, 322D, Zinc Hall

405-985-8008

He’s only been out of high school a couple of weeks, so please understand if he’s a bit apprehensive about being approached. Be sure to mention I sent you. Hope you have a great rush and feel free to contact me back.
