For any students that may still follow this page, I want to let you know that I (Mr. Gerard) will be retiring from NASA education on February 28. Since INSPIRE closed in September, I've been assisting other contracts, escorting for launches, and working with the Educators Resource Center here at KSC.After I retire, I'll be able to maintain a docent status to 'volunteer' for launches and events and hope to independently contract for specific jobs. Not a day goes by when I don't see something online or in the news and think "that would be great to share with the INSPIRE kids". Hope you all meet much success in the future!
INSPIRE-Online Learning Community
The INSPIRE Online Learning Community closed on September 30, 2013 due to budget cuts and reorganization.
The Interdisciplinary National Science Project Incorporating Research and Education Experience, or INSPIRE, is a multitier year-round program designed for students in 9th to 12th grade who are interested in science, technology, engineering, and math.
The INSPIRE Online Learning Community will close at midnight on Sept. 30 2013. Here is the official announcement:
Dear INSPIRE students,
I want to personally thank each of you for your contribution and participation in the NASA INSPIRE project! With your unwavering loyalty and dedication, INSPIRE has been a huge success! We thank you for being a part of this exciting and one-of-a-kind community.
As most of you know, NASA Education has been mandated to make spending cuts as called for in the Budget Control Act of 2011. The law mandates series of indiscriminate and significant across-the-board spending reductions. As result, NASA has been forced to implement a number of new cost-saving measures, policies, and reviews in order to minimize impacts to the mission-critical activities of the Agency. We have worked hard to move this project forward in this time of unsettled budgets, but were unable to find a positive solution. I regret to inform you the INSPIRE project will not move forward for the 2013-2014 school year. Please continue to check the NASA education for students website for other NASA opportunities.
I would like to encourage all of you to continue the journey you started with INSPIRE to a STEM career. The INSPIRE team wishes you well on this journey.

The KSC INSPIRE Student Unconference is over. 36 INSPIRE students and their parent/chaperone participated in this 3 day event at KSC. They sat at console in Delta Launch Control and ran a simulated launch, saw Atlantis and Endeavour, participated in engineering activities, and today visited the F-104 Starfighters and NASA helicopters. Safe travels home all, and see you soon online!
