Your body is a finely calibrated instrument. It has been picking up information your whole life.
The question is whether you've been taught to listen to it.
New post this week — what eight years of road schooling through sacred sites taught me about the curriculum no classroom can contain.
Sacred is not a geographic category. It's a quality of attention.

What If the Most Important Thing We Can Teach Children Is How to Feel? - Good Knight Network
A ‘Roadschooler’s’ Guide to Sacred Sites, Shared Humanity, and the Curriculum No Classroom Can Contain It was a scorching afternoon in Arizona, and my students were doing everything right: cooling cloths draped around their necks, sun hats pulled low, camelbacks full of water. We were on our w...

Miss Amy here: I learned something new (and incredibly cool) today when making echinacea tea for the first time!!!
Echinacea petals contain anthocyanins, which are water-soluble pigments responsible for the purple hue.
Anthocyanins are unstable and can change color depending on factors like temperature and pH levels.
When you make tea, you expose the petals to hot water, which can influence the extraction of these compounds from the petals.
The pigment is drawn together and forms a blister like bubble of pigment halfway down each petal!!
What a fun discovery! I think we’ll do some foraging on the AWS campus and brew some echinacea ‘potion’ at Wizards & Warriors camp next week!

Instead of report cards, the guides at our microschool take photos throughout the day to act as Educational Artifacts. This new series is a great way to see the varieties, interests and depths of learning that we keep track of every day for our students ages 7-15.
🚛 Adventure Day: Waste Not, Want Not! ♻️
On this past Adventure Day, students visited the Hennepin County Transfer Station for an eye-opening experience about waste management and recycling! We learned important local statistics about how much waste we produce, and even took a fascinating (though stinky) tour of the facility, where waste trucks dump their loads before transferring it to the landfill.
While the smell wasn’t the best, the lesson was invaluable! 🌍 The experience sparked many thought-provoking questions from our students about how we can make waste management more efficient and recycling more effective.
It’s amazing how real-world experiences like this make our kids more environmentally conscious and eager to find REAL solutions to the challenges we face, and not just ship off our trash and non-recyclable recycling overseas! 🌱

🇪🇸 Spanish Elective: Taco, Gato, Cabra, Queso, Pizza! 🌮
Learning Spanish has never been so much fun! In our Spanish elective with Miss Heather, students are practicing their beginner vocabulary in a fun and engaging way through the game Taco, Gato, Cabra, Queso, Pizza—and let’s just say, the competition was fierce! 🏆
Miss Heather, a fluent Spanish speaker, leads our kids through lively games and basic vocabulary lessons every Thursday afternoon, helping them explore the language while keeping it playful and interactive. 🎉 Whether they’re calling out food words or working on new phrases, learning Spanish has never been so entertaining!
✨ We love seeing our students dive into language learning with such excitement!

🎶 Adventure Day: Exploring Music from Around the World! 🌍
This past Adventure Day was a musical journey like no other! 🎸
Students had the incredible opportunity to learn how to play the dulcimer in a group lesson, discovering the unique sounds and techniques behind this traditional instrument. 🎵
Next, we took a fascinating tour of the Schubert Club museum, where students explored instruments from around the world. From Africa to Asia, students experienced the diversity of music and learned how different cultures use instruments to express themselves. 🌏
✨ This hands-on exploration of cultural traditions and musical history helped students compare and contrast the various instruments and sounds they encountered.
