Meet Jade Simmons and Jake Snider who just completed their Environmental Science summer internships!

My name is Jade Simmons, and I worked as an Environmental Technician with the Oklahoma Conservation Commission in Geary, Oklahoma, this summer. During my internship I performed fish collections and water quality monitoring in streams across Oklahoma as part of OCCโ€™s Rotating Basin Monitoring Program. ๐ŸŸ๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿงข๐ŸŒŽ

My name is Jake Snider, and I worked at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma, as a Laboratory Environmental Health, Safety, and Compliance intern this summer. During my internship I monitored laboratory safety protocol, equipment maintenance, and chemical inventory and disposal. โš—๏ธ๐Ÿ”ฌ๐Ÿฅฝโ˜ฃ๏ธ

Meet Saiful Islam, a PhD student in Environmental Science at Oklahoma State University conducting research under the guidance of Dr. Hamed Gholizadeh.

Saiful is originally from Chandpur, Bangladesh and his research focus is on remote sensing and ecosystem modeling, with an emphasis on biodiversity and biological invasions. His work uses multispectral and hyperspectral data from UAVs, airborne platforms, and satellites to detect invasive grassland plants, predict their future distribution under climate change, and assess grassland biodiversity, abovegroundโ€“belowground relationships, and soil microbial communities.

Saifulโ€™s research spans grassland ecosystems across the U.S. Southern Great Plains, including the Joseph H. Williams Tallgrass Prairie Preserve in Oklahoma and the Barta Brothers Ranch in Nebraska.

Saiful expects to graduate in Spring 2028 and aspires to build a career in academia as a remote sensing ecologist, using Earth observation technologies to advance ecosystem science and support biodiversity conservation.

We are proud to highlight Saiful's research journey and wish him continued success in his academic and professional endeavors! ๐ŸŒพ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ“ก๐ŸŒŽ๐Ÿ’ป

Our next students for the Environmental Science 4010 Summer Internship are Clayton Roach, Colby Moore, and Elaina Burress!

My name is Clayton Roach, and I completed a summer internship with the Johnson County Park and Recreation District in Olathe, Kansas, where I served as a Park Worker Intern. During my internship, I performed park maintenance, managed natural resources, controlled invasive species, improved wildlife habitat, and supported sustainable park operations to help keep the parks safe, healthy, and enjoyable for visitors. ๐Ÿง‘๐Ÿผโ€๐ŸŒพ๐Ÿฅพ๐ŸŒณ๐ŸŒฒ

My name is Colby Moore, and this summer I worked as a sustainable development intern at ConocoPhillips in Houston, Texas. During my internship, I worked on four projects to help streamline policy and industry trend analysis, continue the companyโ€™s ESG performance, review company peersโ€™ CSRD compliance, and QA/QC incoming emissions forecasts. ๐Ÿง‘๐Ÿปโ€๐Ÿ’ป๐Ÿง‘๐Ÿปโ€๐Ÿ’ผ๐Ÿ“ˆ

Iโ€™m Elaina Burress and my summer internship was at Lake McMurtry here in Stillwater, Oklahoma! I worked as a park associate, and my duties included selling lake day passes and annual permits and providing information to guests about park activity locations and general trails information. ๐ŸŒŠ๐Ÿ›ถ๐Ÿ•๏ธ๐ŸŽ’๐ŸŒฟ

Meet Adeyinka Olusanya, a PhD student in Environmental Science at Oklahoma State University conducting research under the guidance of Dr. Yuting Zhou.

Originally from Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, Nigeria, Adeyinka's research focuses on the food-energy-water nexus, investigating how irrigation and hydraulic fracturing influence groundwater levels under varying aquifer saturated thickness conditions. His work contributes to a better understanding of groundwater sustainability and supports informed water resource management in regions facing competing water demands.

Adeyinka expects to graduate in Spring 2029 and aspires to build a career in oil and gas sustainability as an Environmental Specialist or Project Manager, helping develop solutions that balance energy production with environmental stewardship.

We are proud to highlight Adeyinka's research journey and wish him continued success in his academic and professional endeavors! ๐ŸŒŽ๐ŸŒพ๐Ÿ’ฆโ˜€๏ธ
