Good evening Oklahoma SkillsUSA Family,
Lauren De La Rosa- Hull was the SkillsUSA Oklahoma President who passed away during her term of service in December of 2018. SLI (Summer Leadership Institute) is an event that Lauren loved, and an event that so many other lives have been changed. 100% of the donations received will be used to send students to this great event. Every $200 received will be used to send one additional student to this truly life-changing event. Help me celebrate Lauren's life and the Lauren Legacy will provide this opportunity to more students. This will also be a celebration of Lauren's birthday on March 14.
We are now accepting donations for the Lauren De La Rosa-Hull Memorial SkillsUSA SLI Scholarship Fund. Thank you for your support.

I hope you tune in and watch our SkillsUSA National Officers, including our own Emma Cates for the SkillsUSA Grad Night 2020 virtual event will be streaming live tonight on our Facebook and YouTube pages.
The official portion of the program begins at 6 p.m, but tune in early (around 5:50) for the 10-minute countdown portion. There you’ll see a lot of the video “shoutouts” that many of you and your students submitted. There will be more shoutouts at the conclusion of the program. We had about 15 minutes’ worth of them, so, in an effort to include all of them, we decided to extend our “pre-show” countdown portion and include many of the shoutouts there. We included the more personal shoutouts in that opening section and used the more general shoutouts at the end of the show.
The show runs about 30 minutes. It’s hosted by four of our national officers and features some great musical performances from members, messages from board president Jen Worth, executive director Chelle Travis, and a keynote address from Nick Pinchuk, chairman and CEO of Snap-on Inc.
Directly after the event, on our Instagram page, we’ll be hosting the “After-Party”, which will be a more informal live event geared toward student interaction. Once again hosted by national officers, this event will feature some live guests, Q&A, SkillsUSA Store giveaways and more.
Hope you’ll check it out!

Dear SkillsUSA Oklahoma instructors, advisors, alumni and all other stakeholders
The last few weeks your Trade and Industrial Education division staff have worked tirelessly with business and industry partners and contest coordinators in an effort to find solutions to all the challenges of operating competitions for our student members during this difficult time. Many options were reviewed in an effort to move forward with the competitions in some format, regardless of the obstacles before us.
I have also spent many hours on the phone and on video conference calls with state directors across this country and with the national staff, in an effort to find valid options in running competitions while also keeping our students and volunteers healthy and safe.
However, the decision this past Wednesday by the State Board of Education to keep all campuses closed the remaining of the school year has proven to be the greatest challenge. Many of our contests require hands-on or project based tasks, and these would be impossible to operate since students are restricted from being on our school campuses. This also prevents the students from taking written tests that could have been used to determine winners for many of our competitions.
With the safety and health being the most important factor in the decision, all SkillsUSA Oklahoma competitions have been canceled. This saddens me greatly and I’m sure this announcement will very disappointing news to all SkillsUSA members, especially our students.
Over the next couple of weeks the State Staff, State Officer Team and advisors of state officer candidates will be determining how awards like the Advisor of the Year, Chapter Excellence Program, State Officer Elections, along with other awards will be determined and announced. Be looking for more information in the near future.

However, we've already made our decision on the winner of our NLSC National Anthem competition, and that talented singer is Evelyn Morales from Metro Technology Centers in Oklahoma City, Okla. Congratulations, Evelyn, and stay tuned for further instructions.
