Architect Eric Hoffman approaches design by first listening—seeking to understand the history, values, and aspirations that define a community.
Now, the School of Architecture alumnus and founding partner of Patterhn Ives is earning international recognition for that philosophy. His firm recently received a Faith & Form International Award for Religious Architecture & Art for its renovation of the Kol Rinah Synagogue in Missouri.
Rather than replacing the existing structure, the project transformed a former church into a welcoming and adaptable synagogue that honors both history and contemporary community life.

Unboxed the humanoid robot and immediately started pressing buttons like it was a side quest 🤖
The Cowboys Mechatronics and Robotics Association officially powered up MMME’s new humanoid for the very first time. One minute it was sitting lifeless in a chair… the next it was standing on its own while students learned the controls in real time.

What happens when a successful company needs to grow beyond its original blueprint?
Dr. Amy Lewis is exploring how electrical contracting firms evolve from founder-led businesses into scalable organizations—and what it really takes to make that growth stick long-term.
“It’s not just about getting bigger. It’s about understanding what has to change inside the company for growth to actually work.”

New research from CEAT is advancing how materials perform in extreme environments.
Dr. Ritesh Sachan, from the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, has led work classifying a new category of ceramic materials known as high-entropy oxides. His team’s findings, which show significantly improved resistance to radiation damage at the atomic level, were recently featured on the cover of ACS Nano.
By combining advanced electron microscopy with machine learning in collaboration with Oak Ridge National Laboratory and the University of Tennessee, the research provides new insight into how materials behave under high-energy conditions such as those found in space or advanced electronic systems.
The work represents a step forward in designing materials capable of performing reliably in some of engineering’s most demanding environments."

Artificial intelligence is driving unprecedented demand for data centers—and reshaping how we think about energy, water, and infrastructure.
The Data Center Symposium 2026: Energy and Water brought together leaders from industry, academia, and government to explore what’s next.
From grid reliability and cooling technologies to water use, infrastructure planning, and workforce development, the conversations highlighted what it will take to support this rapid growth responsibly.
“Meeting this moment will require reliable power, practical permitting, workforce readiness, and a clear commitment to responsible community stewardship,” said Katie Altshuler of the Hamm Institute for American Energy.
