In the library, we hold bookmark design contests throughout the year. At the end of the year, we hold a winner vs. winner competition. This yearβs winner is Charlie Liang. We have printed out his cool bookmark in color on cardstock. They will be in our bookmark bucket at the beginning of next school year. Way to go, Charlie! πππππ

3rd grade is visiting Pleasant Valley this week. In the library, Mrs. Clyburn and Ms. Dana have been teaching our friends how to sew a quilted napkin for their lunch pails. Here are a few finished projects. We think they turned out great!

Mrs. Clyburn recognized some awesome readers at RRR today. We had some 3rd-5th graders complete our 40 book challenge by reading 40 chapter books from different genres this year. They received a certificate and will have a pizza party in the library. Some of our K friends finished our 500 books before 1st grade challenge. They were so excited to receive their trophies. And finally, we have given a Newberry challenge to 3rd-5th graders the past 4 years. The challenge is to read 10 Newberry Honor books and write a short summary of them. We have never had a student complete this challenge until this year. Avery Nicholson is the very first Ridgerunner to do it. She received a certificate and a gift card to Barnes and Noble. We are very proud of these awesome readers! ππππ

What do you do when you have a parent of kids in your school who is a bonafide published author of a childrenβs book? You invite her to speak to your 4th and 5th graders about her book and the process of writing and getting a book published, of course. Thank you, Joslin Brorsen for sharing Wilderness Hacks with our Ridgerunners!
