The safety of all is the primary focus, but it is also worrisome for pecan growers with trees that are almost ready to be harvested. Dr. Lenny Wells from the University of Georgia, and Pecan South contributor, has information on his blog about how pecan growers can weather the storm.
Stay safe!

Started pecan crop load thinning today at Cimarron Valley Research Station. Timing is determined by cutting the pecan in half to see embryo development. Thinning should be completed while the kernels are in the water stage between 50-100% expanded. The first picture shows the Kanza kernels in the water stage expanded to about 75%. The second picture shows Pawnee about 60% and Maramec about 50%.
