Dr. David D'Andrea is currently in Rome for the opening of an exhibit curated by himself and Dr. Eric Singleton of the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum. "Native Peoples at War: The Italian Countryside Through the Drawings of a Pawnee Warrior" will be opened Tuesday, September 19, at the MOA - Museum of Operation Avalanche. This exhibit features sketches and perspectives from Brummett Echohawk, a Pawnee Soldier in the American 45th Infantry Division. Two members of the Pawnee Nation and Echohawk family will be in attendance at the opening of this exhibit in Italy.

For a closer-to-home experience, the "Nations at War!: Field Sketches of a Pawnee Warrior" exhibition, featuring Echohawk's work, is on view at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum through January 21, 2024.

Join American Studies Oklahoma State University and Oklahoma State University Department of History for this event, tomorrow, April 26, at 5:30pm. Jonathan Moller, a documentary photographer, will be giving a talk about his decades of work in Latin America, particularly pertaining to documenting truth and reconciliation processes in Peru and Guatemala.

His presentation will relate to photography and visual culture as historical sources, human rights, truth and reconciliation, Latin America, war, and Indigeneity. The event is in Nancy Randolph Davis, room 230.

Our first event is a conversation with Ben Barnes and Stephen Warren, authors of REPLANTING CULTURES.

REPLANTING CULTURES includes case studies of Indigenous nations from the Stó:lō of the Fraser River Valley to the Shawnee and Miami tribes of Oklahoma, Ohio, and Indiana. Readers interested in better research outcomes for the world's Indigenous peoples will be inspired by these reflections on the practice of community engagement.

Benjamin J. Barnes is Chief of the Shawnee Tribe. Stephen Warren is Professor of History and American Studies and Chair of American Studies at the University of Iowa.

This event is organized and supported by the Oklahoma State University Department of History and the Center for Poets and Writers at OSU-Tulsa. Whitty Books is our bookselling partner.

We’re back with another Alumni Spotlight!

This week, we’re pleased to introduce Jennifer Ochler Teel. Jennifer graduated with her bachelor’s from Oklahoma State University - Department of History in 2018, her primary area of study being American History. After earning her BA, Jennifer went on to complete a MS degree in Teaching, Learning, Leadership/K-12 ED, with an emphasis in Secondary Social Studies, which she just recently finished in May of 2021. She is now working on her state exams, with goals of being a Secondary Social Studies teacher. Jennifer is thinking about returning to school in a few years to begin doctoral studies in History/Museum Studies, with the hopes of becoming a museum curator. Jennifer also volunteers as a docent at Woolaroc Museum & Wildlife Preserve (Frank Phillips Ranch Museum).

Congratulations on all your accomplishments, Jennifer! We are excited to share this Alumni Spotlight with our followers.
