Minnesota icy trails become penguin paths
for Kind Roots Kids.
What started as a winter hike turned into a spontaneous sliding adventure as the children leaned into the landscape, tested their balance, and laughed their way down the trail together.
This is how learning lives here: With cold cheeks, brave bodies, and the joy of discovering what nature offers in every season

A new year, new adventures.
We’re so excited for all the exploring, creating, and growing ahead, guided by curiosity, nature, and play.
Here’s to another year of wonder at Kind Roots
We had such a wonderful first week of school!
The children learned about pond safety because what better way to understand respect for water than by jumping right in and mucking around together?
A big thank you to our friends at for guiding us, sharing their knowledge, and helping us discover the amazing life that calls our pond home.
Here’s to a season of curiosity, connection, and care for the natural world right outside our door.

As we start to change from Summer to Fall, we celebrated 10 incredible children as they head off to their next adventure.
For the past three years, we’ve had the honor of walking alongside them, discovering, creating, laughing, and building friendships that will carry with them always.
Our hearts are so full.
Together we circled the seasons one last time (around the rug) each child placing their flower in the vase, showing how they’ve blossomed since the very beginning.
They each carried home a portfolio of their journey here, a crown made with things they love right now that reflect who they are, and a keychain for their backpack to remind them of this place.
And in the garden, a fence post with their name will remain, representing the roots they’ve planted here forever.
It’s moments like these we hold close, trusting that love will be their guide as they step into what’s next.

We turned flowers into color,
pounding petals into cloth with curious hands.
Some blooms came from our garden, some were gathered mindfully from the wild, and some were generously shared by our dear friend 💐
We pick wildflowers with care, we pause to ask:
🌼 Is this flower abundant?
🌼 Are we allowed to gather here?
🌼 Can we leave enough for bees and blooms to return?
This wasn’t just art, it was a conversation about gratitude, respect, and connection to the land.
Thank you to nature and for making this moment so meaningful.

After the storm passed, the sun returned and so did the children.
Together, we gathered the fallen branches, not as damage, but as possibility. We built a fort bigger than any before. A shelter made of joy, resilience, and imagination.
Even the wildest weather will pass.
And when it does, you might find yourself standing in the soggy grass, holding the pieces of what came down…
ready to build something new?
The children remind us:
You will get through the storm.
And on the other side, there is always light.
There is always play.
There is always something worth building.

The kids have been hard at work building a fairy village in the woods. Using sticks, rocks, pinecones, bark, and flowers, they’ve created small homes, gathering spaces, and tiny trails.
Each one shaped by teamwork, problem-solving, and a whole lot of care.
Projects like this invite children to slow down, notice the details in nature, and use what’s around them in creative ways. It’s been incredible to watch their ideas unfold and their shared space take shape.

Happy International Mud Day 2025!
Today, we celebrate childhood in its most joyful, messy, and grounded form….through mud play!
At Kind Roots, mud is more than just dirt and water… its imagination, science, connection, and sensory exploration all rolled into one squishy masterpiece.
We are honoring the freedom to play
and the right to get messy!
