Finding out which schools will be "best fits" means students need to learn what each school offers. That means doing research. I'll be on a panel at the 2023 Fall IECA Conference in Tampa this November, discussing how we can help our students dig into more than reputation.

Looking forward to exploring ideas with IEC Sylvia Jackman and admissions folks from Wooster (April Gamble) and the University of Maryland (Rosemary Martin Edwards)!

I spent the week visiting 10 colleges and attending professional development sessions at the HECA (Higher Education Consultants Association) conference with wonderful colleagues from across the country. That's me a UVA, stop #8. I also visited U. Maryland, Georgetown, George Washington U., Catholic U., George Mason U., Shenandoah U., James Madison U., Randolph-Macon, and U. of Mary Washington! Whew.

I like what the author spells out here. Her points aren't new; I've said the same things in different ways to my families, but it's nicely packaged in one quick read:

Super-selective schools became even more selective this year. Seventy percent of the Common App's applicants come from the top 10% of income levels.
