🔥📚 Camp Read S'More: Ignite Your Love for Reading! 📚🔥
This morning, Carson Elementary officially kicked off summer reading with our Camp Read S'More Assembly! Students shared some of their favorite books, learned about exciting summer opportunities through the Fort Vancouver Regional Library Summer Reading Program, and heard from our incredible Carson and Stevenson volunteer firefighters. 🚒
Our community librarian and firefighters reminded students that reading, learning, teamwork, courage, and safety all go hand-in-hand. We are so grateful for the community partners who helped inspire our Cougars to keep reading, exploring, and growing all summer long.
Thank you to everyone who helped make this memorable event possible. Carson Cougars, your summer reading mission is clear: Read, explore, imagine, and ignite your love for learning! 📖✨

Track season in the books and another school record goes down. The speed of Jude Travinski cannot be denied as he recorded a 10.95 good enough for 6th place in the 100 meter dash. He backed it up with a 5th place and podium finish in the 200 meters. Seth Marshall ran a personal best in the 100 as did Johnathon Thornburg in the 200.
Freshman Malachi Myers tied the Freshman school record last week but fell just short of that at state. Pole Vaulters Kayman Kingston, Matthew Trollier and Mira McIlwain competed fiercely clearing the bar shy of a podium performance. Daisy Jones ran a personal best 2:28 to land top 20 in the 800 and 1600 races.

On Tuesday, we had the honor of welcoming members of our local American Legion to Carson Elementary to lead our school in the Pledge of Allegiance in honor of Memorial Day. Our students did a wonderful job showing respect and listening as veterans shared about the American flag and challenged us with some “homework” — learning what the different parts of the flag represent, including the blue field, white stars, and red and white stripes. 🇺🇸
To end the assembly, students lined up to wave goodbye as our guests headed out on their motorcycles — a memorable moment for everyone involved!
Thank you to our local American Legion members for taking the time to visit our school, connect with students, and remind us of the importance of service, citizenship, and community. ❤️🤍💙

2026 DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIPS
THE BOYS — SPEED, HEIGHT, AND HEART
The sprint crew set the tone early. Jude Travinski blasted through the 100m and 200m, dropping two huge PBs (11.02 & 22.16) and punching his ticket to State in both events. Right behind him, Seth Marshall matched the energy — a PB of 11.30 in the 100m and another State qualification. And in the 200m, Johnathan Thornburg delivered one of the best races of his season, dropping a 22.80 PB and earning his own State berth as a sophomore.
In the 800m, senior Brayden Hays capped his final Districts with a 2:07.65 PB, then came back
to race the 4x400 with everything he had. That relay — Johnathan, Jude, Eddie Barajas, and Brayden — fought for every step, finishing in 3:37.70 and showing the grit that defines this
team.
The field events added their own drama.
Malachi Myers, just a freshman, soared to a 6’0 PB in the high jump, securing a State qualification and announcing himself as one of the next great Bulldog jumpers. Michael Dillon and Elliot Watchman backed him up with strong clearances of their own.
In the pole vault, senior Matthew Trollier delivered a storybook moment — a 12’0 PB and a
State qualification in his final District meet. Kayman Kingston joined him at State with an 11’0
clearance, and senior Liam King closed out his career with a solid 10’0.
Thrower Linden Wieman muscled out a 42’0.25 shot put and added a 124’7 javelin mark, finishing his season as one of the most versatile athletes on the team.
And in the triple jump, Cyril Waters, Elliot, and Garrett Egnew stacked three top‑12 finishes —
a testament to the depth of this young group.
The boys finished 5th overall as a team — a huge statement in a deep district.
THE GIRLS — CONSISTENCY, COURAGE, AND BREAKTHROUGHS
The girls distance squad delivered one of their strongest championship meets yet.
Daisy Jones ran with poise and fire, dropping a 2:30.87 PB in the 800m and qualifying for State in both the 800 and 1600. Her double was one of the highlights of the entire meet, plus she led off th400.
Ruby Langer, in her final District meet, placed 5th in the 3200 with her trademark of consistency and toughness. Keeley MacAlevy participated in her first Districts — a 6:32 PB in the 1600 and a gutsy double in the 3200.
The relays showed the depth of the girls program:
• 4x100 (Katelyn, Madyson, Isabella, Alison) — 1:00.03
• 4x200 (Naomy, Breyona, Isabella, Madyson) — 2:11.01
• 4x400 (Daisy, Tippen, Mira, Marlee) — 4:40.59
But the biggest fireworks came from the jumps crew. Mira McIlwain had the meet of her life — a 9’6 PB in pole vault, a 16’0.25 PB in long jump, and a 33’6.25 PB in triple jump. She
qualified for State in all three events, one of the most impressive all‑around performances in
the district.
Nevaeh Short added a season‑best 32’5.5 in triple jump, and Katelyn Trollier cleared 7’0 in pole vault to round out a strong day for the group. The girls finished 9th overall and will continue to grow with youth and enthusiasm.

Oscar Hietpas, Walker Kingston and Zeffyn Schaeffer all landed on the Honorable Mention for soccer. Cam Engel was named to the 2nd team All League in Baseball.
Cam also competed in the State Golf Championships this week in Liberty Lake. He shot an outstanding (39) on the front nine, then the back nine proved to be rather challenging and miss the cut for the second day. Way to represent at State Cam.
Good Luck today to our district track n field athletes and Emma Owens at State Tennis tomorrow.
