As Banned Books Week comes to a close, we'd like to leave you with a few things you can do to support the freedom to read.

📚 Support and use your local libraries.

📚 Talk about books. Share something you've read that changed your perspective or made you think differently.

📚 Browse or check out this book, "Teaching Banned Books," available on the 3rd flr, call # Z1019 .S33 2020.

We're wrapping up our three-part journey through UWSP library history.

In the final installment of our series, Cheyenne takes us through more than 50 years of library history, beginning with the groundbreaking of the Learning Resource Center (LRC) in 1968 to its opening in 1970. From the early days of the card catalog through digital resources, the LRC continued to evolve and expand.

The story brings us full circle, from the closure of Albertson Hall in 2023 to the opening of our new Kirby Library and Student Resource Center in April 2026.

A big thank you to Cheyenne for researching and writing this in-depth series using historical materials from our Archives.

And don't forget, our amazing Archives team will be at the Homecoming HotSpot tomorrow, Oct. 10, sharing pieces of Pointer history. Stop by and say hello!

A little Banned Books Week history!

This poster dates to 1983, just one year after Banned Books Week began. More than 40 years later, its message about intellectual freedom and the freedom to read remains just as relevant.

If you're curious about what's happening today, the American Library Association tracks book challenges and censorship attempts in public libraries, school libraries, and other settings across the country.

Take a few minutes to explore the ALA's book censorship data, including recent statistics, trends, and information about the books being challenged.https://www.ala.org/bbooks/book-ban-data

Did you guess D, all of the above? You are correct!

Search@UW brings together physical and digital resources from across the UW System, making it a perfect research starting point. After her initial research, Leah will be ready with specific search terms for specialized databases like the Education Resources Information Center (ERIC) and Education Source.

Be sure to visit the library's A-Z Database list to see all the wonderful resources we have for you. Not sure where to start? Visit the Reference Desk on the first floor for in-person help, or chat with a librarian through our website, anytime!
