UWSP Army ROTC cadets came together for a battalion potluck, creating a great opportunity to build camaraderie outside of training. Sharing food, stories, and time as a group helped strengthen the bonds that make our program so effective.

The potluck gave cadets a chance to relax, connect with one another, and enjoy the kind of team atmosphere that carries over into leadership labs, PT, and field training. Moments like this remind us that strong units are built not only through hard work, but through community and support.

Thank you to everyone who brought dishes and helped make the gathering a fun and meaningful experience for the program. UWSP Army ROTC continues to grow because of the dedication, teamwork, and spirit our cadets bring every day.

UWSP Army ROTC had the honor of hosting Major General Kevin F. Meisler, Commanding General of the 88th Readiness Division and Senior Commander of Fort McCoy. His visit provided our cadets with a valuable opportunity to learn directly from a senior Army Reserve leader whose career spans multiple commands, global deployments, and decades of service.

Cadets were able to engage with MG Meisler in an open forum, where he shared insight on leadership, professional development, and the realities of serving as an officer in today’s Army. He spoke about his experiences commanding units at every level, supporting operations around the world, and leading Soldiers through both combat missions and large‑scale logistical efforts. Hearing these perspectives firsthand gave our cadets a deeper understanding of what it means to lead with character, competence, and commitment.

MG Meisler also spent time touring our ROTC facilities and meeting with cadre, showing genuine interest in the development of future officers here at UW–Stevens Point. His willingness to invest time in our program reflects the strong connection between Fort McCoy and the ROTC programs across Wisconsin.

We are sincerely grateful for MG Meisler’s visit and the mentorship he shared with our cadets. Experiences like this strengthen our program and inspire the next generation of Army leaders. Thank you, sir, for taking the time to speak with UWSP Army ROTC and for your continued support of our cadets’ growth and success.

UWSP Army ROTC proudly recognizes CDT Steinbach and CDT Bembenek for successfully completing the Norwegian Foot March at Fort McCoy. This event is a demanding test of endurance, discipline, and resilience, requiring participants to complete a long‑distance ruck under strict time standards while maintaining consistent pace, attention to detail, and physical readiness throughout the course.

Both cadets demonstrated exceptional commitment in their preparation and ex*****on. Completing the Norwegian Foot March reflects not only physical strength, but also mental toughness, perseverance, and the ability to stay focused under sustained stress. CDT Steinbach and CDT Bembenek represented the Northwoods Battalion with professionalism and determination, embodying the values expected of future Army leaders.

Their achievement stands as a strong example for fellow cadets and contributes to the continued excellence and high standards upheld within UWSP Army ROTC.

UWSP Army ROTC continued the semester with our Week 2 Land Navigation Lab, led by CDT Last. Cadets began with classroom instruction covering map reading, terrain association, and core navigation fundamentals. After reviewing key concepts, they completed a paper exam to reinforce accuracy in plotting points and interpreting topographic features.

Training then moved outdoors for a practical azimuth exercise, where cadets applied pace count, compass use, and directional movement. The lab concluded with a land navigation course, giving cadets the opportunity to put their skills into practice in a realistic field environment.

A well‑structured progression that strengthened confidence and prepared cadets for future navigation tasks throughout the semester.

UWSP Army ROTC opened the semester with our Intro Lab, led by CDT Steinbach. Cadets met their peers, reviewed essential program information, and set clear expectations for upcoming training events. Under CDT Steinbach’s guidance, the group discussed semester goals and the foundational skills they will continue developing throughout the fall.

To build early cohesion, the session concluded with a game of ultimate frisbee, giving cadets the chance to strengthen communication and teamwork in a relaxed, positive environment.

Only a few days left until the 5th annual Ranger Ruck!

Join us for a 10k ruck, run, or walk this Saturday, September 12th. The 6.2 mile course begins on campus near the MCCH and goes through beautiful Schmeeckle Reserve.

We look forward to rucking, running and having fun with you this Saturday!
