As part of the Places & Faces in Our Communities theme, the preschoolers have been learning all about the wonderful people who help our community! We’ve had special visits from a nurse and firefighters, and today we took a trip to our local post office!

The children were so excited to see where letters and packages go and learn how our mail carriers help deliver them to homes and businesses. It was a fun, hands-on experience that brought our learning to life! 📦✉️

A BIG thank-you to Zaniya’s dad for giving us a special behind-the-scenes tour and helping us learn all about the important work that happens at the post office! We appreciate you taking the time to make our visit so special!

Our first graders are exploring all things PUMPKINS through hands-on learning labs! From map skills in Social Studies and pumpkin investigations in Science to digital activities in Computer Lab and creative challenges in STEM, learning is coming to life! 🎃🔬💻

The best part? Students have voice and choice in selecting their labs while building independence, teamwork, and problem-solving skills!

❤️🖤 Round 2: STEM Meets History at Historic Fort Steuben!

Our 4th graders discovered that STEM isn’t just something we learn in the classroom, it has been part of everyday life for hundreds of years!

As students explored Historic Fort Steuben, they saw firsthand how people used engineering, technology, creativity, and problem-solving to accomplish everyday tasks and build a thriving community. From grinding grain into flour to understanding how tools and equipment were designed and used, students were able to see the STEM behind the history!

It was the perfect opportunity to connect our 4th grade STEM learning with real-world problem-solving from the past, and a pretty fun way to learn along the way! 🛠️🌾🏰

🏰✨ Traveling Back in Time at Historic Fort Steuben! ✨🏰

Today, our McKinley STEM Academy fourth graders took a trip back in time to the 1700s during an exciting visit to Historic Fort Steuben! ⏳🇺🇸

Our students had the opportunity to experience what life was like in early Ohio through some amazing hands-on activities!

💥 BOOM! Students got to help blast a cannon!

🌾 From Grain to Flour! Students learned how to grind wheat just like people did centuries ago!

🏰 Life at the Fort! Students explored what daily life was like for those living and working at the fort in the 1700s.

📚 History Comes to Life! We connected our classroom learning to real-life experiences while discovering more about Ohio’s rich history!

There is nothing better than taking learning beyond the classroom walls and giving students an opportunity to experience history firsthand! ❤️🖤

A huge THANK YOU to Historic Fort Steuben for providing our students with such a fun, educational, and memorable experience!

⚙️Today, McKinley STEM Academy welcomed educators for our Ohio STEM Learning Network Spotlight Visit!

Thank you to our visitors from Chillicothe City Schools, Warren Local Schools, and Bio-Med Science Academy for joining us to connect, exchange ideas, and celebrate STEM education.

We were proud to share our school community and the curiosity, creativity, and dedication of our students and staff. Opportunities like these help educators learn from one another and bring new possibilities to students across Ohio! Ohio STEM Learning Network (OSLN)

Things are growing in AG Lab—including our patience! 🌱😂

Our students have been planting, waiting, observing, checking soil moisture levels, and tracking the growth of bush beans, pole beans, cucumbers, cucamelons, radishes, peas, squash, carrots, and strawberries in the greenhouse!

We also love snacking on fresh lettuce from our hydroponic towers while we work. A greenhouse with snacks? Now that’s our kind of classroom! 🥬😋

Our young growers are learning that growing food takes care, curiosity, and patience. Apparently, asking “Has it grown yet?” doesn’t make it grow faster… but we keep checking just in case! 💚
