Why the School of Spiritual Direction? Because walking with another soul toward God is sacred work, and it deserves real formation.

⛪ Faithful to the Church: Our formation is rooted in the Catholic spiritual tradition and serves the Church's mission of accompanying souls toward deeper union with God.

🕊️ In Service of One Another: Spiritual direction is a ministry of accompaniment. Our students and alumni serve in parishes, retreat centers, and private practices, and trained directors can keep growing through ongoing group supervision.

🙏 Attentive to the Holy Spirit: Everything begins with listening. The School exists to nurture a culture of attentive listening to the Holy Spirit, first in your own life and then in the lives of those you accompany.

✨ Integrating Human & Spiritual Formation: Courses like Life in Christ and Spiritual Direction and Human Development for Spiritual Growth form the whole person, because spiritual growth and human maturity go hand in hand.

Wherever you are on the journey, there's a place to begin. Foundational courses are open to anyone seeking a deeper interior life. The Spiritual Direction Certificate is for those called to accompany others, and the Spiritual Direction Supervisor Certificate is for experienced directors.

By age 10, St. Thérèse of Lisieux had lost all three women she loved as mothers.

Her wet nurse, Rose, cared for her as an infant. Her mother, Zélie, died when Thérèse was four. Her sister Pauline, who stepped in as a second mother, left home to enter the Carmelite convent. Soon after, Thérèse fell into a mysterious illness—hallucinations, tremors, and fear so severe she couldn't be left alone. Her doctor couldn't name it.

On Pentecost Sunday in 1883, her sisters knelt by her bed and prayed before a statue of Our Lady. Thérèse saw the Blessed Virgin smile at her, and the illness lifted.

Most healing won't look like hers. But the Little Flower's story is a reminder of why DMU forms mental health professionals who make room for the Divine Physician to work alongside the care they give.

Today, October 1, the Church celebrates her feast. St. Thérèse is one of the eight patrons of Divine Mercy University.
