Teaching children about accepting and overcoming failure is pivotal in their upbringing. It instills in them a fundamental life skill — resilience. Resilience is not just about bouncing back from setbacks; it's about learning from them, growing stronger, and continuing to strive towards their goals despite obstacles.

For a parent, this lesson is more than just preparing their child to handle disappointment or setbacks. It's about equipping them with the mental fortitude to navigate life's challenges confidently. By showing their children that failure is a natural part of the journey towards success, a parent encourages a healthy attitude towards setbacks. This attitude includes understanding that mistakes and failures are opportunities for learning and growth, rather than reasons for discouragement or giving up.

Moreover, teaching resilience through the acceptance of failure also helps in building a strong bond between a parent and child. When a parent shares their own experiences of overcoming adversity, they not only imparts practical wisdom but also demonstrates vulnerability and strength. This openness fosters trust and deepens their relationship, as the child learns valuable life lessons from someone they looks up to.

Furthermore, resilience is a quality that extends beyond individual success. It cultivates empathy and understanding towards others who may be struggling with their own challenges. A child who learns resilience from his family is more likely to show compassion and support to those around them, creating a positive ripple effect in their community.

In essence, teaching children about accepting and overcoming failure is about preparing them for life's inevitable ups and downs and how to handle them with confidence and grace. It empowers them to face adversity head-on, learn from setbacks, and continue striving towards their aspirations. Ultimately, it lays a solid foundation for their personal growth, resilience, and emotional well-being throughout their lives.

"Training is a promise. You trust that your partner won't hurt you, and you do so in return. Take things slow and practice them properly. It will do you no good to create bad habits by practicing improperly. There are countless ways to punch, but as student, you should punch straight and true for the benefit of your fellow classmates. To help them with tracking missile-like punches, do not throw punches that float all over the place. That type of punching does not benefit anyone. Just punch straight, and if your partner does not move at the right time and at the right distance, they will get hit. And you, as thier training partner, should not be afraid to be hit them. There is no shame in being hit. Even I, as I show techniques, am occasionally hit. This is a part of the learning process. In a real fight, you will be hit and you must not be shocked by contact. Being hit lets you know that you did something wrong and need to work on it until you get it right. Simply practice properly." - Nagato

Coach Charles McDowell has been promoted to 7th Dan.

It is with great pride and humility that we announce that Coach Charles McDowell has been examined and promoted to 7th Dan ranking, earning him the title of Grandmaster. This rank is with the World Taekwondo Jidokwan Federation and along with this he has also been awarded the International Master’s Certification for the Jidokwan as well.

The Jidokwan is one of the founding five Kwans of Taekwondo. These are the original martial arts lineages that unified and formed the KTA and eventually the Kukkiwon / World Taekwondo Headquarters. Few individuals world wide have been recognized and inducted into this prestigious sub-section of elites. Coach Charles' training lineage and personal instruction was founded on Jidokwan's principals and it is a great honor to be recognized and granted permission to stand beside others who represent the Jidokwan lineage of Taekwondo. The Jidokwan prides itself on an approach based on physical ability and analytical thinking. Translated to the "Way of Wisdom", athletes, masters, and grandmasters within the Jidokwan most often earn their ranks only through constant competition victory and pressure testing of their skills, giving them them the reputation as many of the most athletic and experienced of taekwondo practitioners.

Along with this humbling promotion, Coach Charles will attempt another rank exam for the entirety of the Kukkiwon coming up in December or January! Stay tuned for more info!
