At today's Full Board meeting, Commissioners Sylvia Grot, Joseph V. Romano, and Chair Joe Sabatini presented a Proclamation congratulating Utica Community Schools for being recognized as one of the best communities for music education by the National Association of Music Merchants Foundation. Due to the dedication of the district’s educators, students experience meaningful and inspiring music programs that spark creativity and encourage a lifelong love of the arts.

The Macomb County Board of Commissioners honored Utica Community Schools for being named one of the best communities for music education. Commissioners Sylvia Grot, Joseph Romano and Board Chair Joe Sabatini presented a special proclamation to UHS band teacher and instrumental music department chair Brett Bays, drum majors Madelynne Gabridge and Nathan Siegert and UCS Chief of Staff Dr. Michael Bender. The resolution reads in part that the board “honors Utica Community Schools’ ongoing dedication to fostering creativity, collaboration and lifelong learning through music.”

When a stand used by Prekindergarten students at Walsh Community Education Center broke, John Chateau and his industrial arts students at Davis stepped in. The students built a new stand that early childhood students are now enjoying on their playground. The stand is used for imaginary play and is similar to a market stand used at a farmers market to sell produce.

UCS Science Olympiad students receive honors at state competition UTICA/STERLING HEIGHTS — Two Bemis Junior High School teams earned two top medals at the 2026 Michigan Science Olympiad State Tournament, in the middle school division, on April 25 at Michigan State University.
