Utica Community Schools graduate Will Jenkins got ahead in his college studies early on, as a high school freshman.

As a 2021 UCS graduate, Jenkins started Oakland University as a second-semester sophomore and will finish the year with junior status after being able to start college early as a high schooler! Congrats Will and to all the teachers that helped him along the way!

“Now is a time that we need to step up and support these people in need, and a great way of doing that is to provide some sort of enjoyment and temporary escape from their situation,” Utica High School Senior, Alex Keta said. “Seeing as soccer is by far the most popular sport in not only Afghanistan but most countries, I figured that we, as a community, could send over some used soccer gear that would continue collecting dust at our houses, but could potentially be a life-changing gift to a refugee child.”

Ninety-three percent of the 2021 GLK-UAIS graduates who took the rigorous International Baccalaureate (IB) examination were awarded an IB Diploma – the highest in the history of the program. Internationally, the global passing rate is 88.9 percent for all 153 countries.

FocuSSTEM NexTGen general member and Utica Academy for International Studies (UAIS) junior, Brittany Clark, said she feels that being involved with the organization is a great opportunity.

As a member of FocuSSTEM NextGen, “students get to experience different medical fields that aren’t well known and have the chance to explore those areas,” said Clark.
