Whimsical Writer Workshops F.A.Q.
How does it work?
Writers looking to grow their skills sign up for a six week workshop. These workshops are run on Facebook through a private group accessible only by students and their instructor.
How many students in a workshop?
We require a minimum of five students to conduct a workshop. No more than fifteen students will be permitted in the same workshop session.
What kinds of workshops are offered?
We offer an ever changing variety of workshops to meet the needs of all students. From narrative non-fiction to flash fiction and novel writing, there is something for every writer available.
What does it cost?
Each workshop is $75 for the six-weeks. This is a per workshop and per student cost that may be paid through: Venmo, PayPal, or CashApp directly to the instructor. Tuition for the workshop must be paid in full 48 hours prior to the first Sunday of the workshop. Writers are able to place a $25 non-refundable deposit to hold their place in a workshop at any time. Full payment for workshops that are not held will result in a refund less the $25 non-refundable deposit.
How does workshop work?
Each student will be expected to compose original work a minimum of two times throughout the workshop. Every student will read, review, and critique the work of their peers in the course. Students will also receive personalized feedback from their instructor on original pieces. At the instructor's discretion, supportive and enrichment materials or activities may also be part of the course.
What is the time commitment?
Students will access the workshop on their own time, adhering to the deadlines and due dates set forth by the instructor. A typical workshop will ask that students post their original work by Sunday night, read and critique peer work by Wednesday night, respond to posted peer critiques by Saturday night.
Will this improve grammar?
By mere exposure and intensive study of written word, grammar should improve. That is, however, NOT the focus of the workshops. We focus more on content and creativity. Our workshops are meant to serve as an avenue of growth and exploration for the eager writer.
May I take the same workshop more than once?
Yes! Writers are encouraged to take Genre Workshops as many times as they'd like for each time will be unique to the last. Workshops are driven by student interest, need, and work. Craft Skill Workshops may also be taken more than once but might not be as impactful as the first time taken. How does it work?
