In the wake of sweeping federal funding cuts, public education in Michigan is at a breaking point. Classrooms will be even further under-resourced. Teachers are being asked to do more with less. Students are at risk of falling through the cracks.

At our Public Education Town Hall we’ll stand together with educators, students and families to call and plan for action, restore funding and protect the future of public education in our state.

A little history this Labor Day.

The Warren EA has beginnings dating back to the 1940s and became fully incorporated as the local labor union for educators in Warren Consolidated Schools in 1965. Our first collectively bargained contract was negotiated and in full effect as of 1966.

Named the State of Michigan - Social Worker of the Year by the Michigan Association of School Social Workers.

Melissa Wheeler, social worker at Beer Middle School, was named School Social Worker of the Year for the State of Michigan by the Michigan Association of School Social Workers.

Earlier this year, Wheeler was named School Social Worker of the Year for Macomb County-Region M, by the MASSW.

The Michigan Association of School Social Workers chose Wheeler for her demonstrated outstanding performance in her practice and her pivotal role in bridging the gap between students, families, and educational staff by fostering a supportive environment for students’ academic and personal growth.

Wheeler has been with Warren Consolidated Schools for the past 15 years. She went into the field of social work because she wanted to dedicate her career to improving the well-being of students, providing support to families, and linking together with the community. She believes in providing an environment where every student feels seen, heard, supported, and has the opportunity to succeed.
