“Goals are dreams with time lines. Turn your vision into action with goal setting. Seek progress rather than perfection.”

Excerpt From: Gary Mack & David Casstevens. “Mind Gym : An Athlete's Guide to Inner Excellence.” McGraw-Hill, 2001. iBooks.

"Goals are dreams with time lines!" When I ask most people "what is your goal?" Most have to think about it, then after a moment the usual response is "well, I wanna go to the NFR!" Don't we all?????? But how, and what is your plan to do that? See, having an over all goal is great, but it needs to be specific. I once asked a friend "what is your goal?" Her response "I wanna be so good that I have my own theme song when I ride down the alley at the NFR and every major rodeo." Now that's a goal! She has now made the NFR twice! Be specific, so specific u can feel it, smell it, hear it.
So what to do about it? Make daily goals, weekly goals, monthly goals. Something u can actively do every day!
Here is an example of one for a horse coming back after years of injuries

GOALS:

10th hole going into NFR ending up 3rd in the world in 3yrs. Dad will be smiling so big as he's leading me down the alley way. I will get an interview after winning a round and will finally get to thank everyone.

Monthly
Enter two smaller pro rodeos and one big one every month. 15% it (meaning win 15% of the total pot)

Weekly
Make one to two runs at an event. Focus and be completely in the moment in my mind. Ride to the hole, round out the back side, leave with straight spine in my horse, use two hands all the way to the hole. Focus on riding stride for stride one jump at a time APPRECIATE YOUR LIFE!

Daily
Trot pattern 20 times a day as if I'm running to develop my muscle memory, and his. Read mental toughness books 2 chapters a day. Read my bible, until I can't no more and fall asleep with it on my face so it'll sink in (lol jk). Exercise, do my program all the way, I can do this! Visualize my runs 5 times a day (visualize with mistakes even and then see yourself reacting accordingly). Eat healthy food. Take care of myself by loving myself

Hope this helps and remember be specific, place time lines, be realistic, and BE THANKFUL AND GRATEFUL!

“Learn to use your mind or your mind will use you. Actions follow our thoughts and images. Don’t look where you don’t want to go.”

Excerpt From: Gary Mack & David Casstevens. “Mind Gym : An Athlete's Guide to Inner Excellence.” McGraw-Hill, 2001. iBooks.

Sounds a lot like barrel racing doesn't it? Funny this was actually a story about baseball. I have a friend that puts images of monkey faces or donkeys or something slightly silly on top of the barrel. At the end of the practice session she asks "what was that picture on top of the barrel"? If u know whoooooo would u get it lol. Tough coach, great lesson. Always look in the tracks u want to be in. If u have a horse cheating you, exaggerate look at the fence, look more right. Set your intention with your eyes. Love you all
