Central Elementary Fine Arts

Central Elementary Fine Arts Mrs. Childs' Fine Arts classroom at Central Elementary in Stephenville, Texas. In fine arts students discover, explore, and create both art and music.

In art, students learn the art elements (color, line, shape, texture, form, space) and how to use these elements in different types of art such as drawing, painting, collage, weaving and sculpture. During art lessons students participate in looking at art in order to learn about other cultures and artists, talking about art in order to discuss meanings and feelings, and making art in order to crea

te expressive visual images. In music, students learn the elements of music (beat, rhythm, dynamics, pitch, tempo and timbre), basic music notation, and the four instrument families. During music lessons students experience singing, dancing, playing instruments, listening, improvising and performing. I believe the process and experience of fine arts is crucial at every age. It allows students to express themselves in new ways and challenge themselves to be open-minded and seek new perspectives. It is my goal to create a safe, loving, and inviting atmosphere in my classroom where students can feel free to take risks, accept challenges, and make mistakes—in order to achieve success.

In March, the Advanced Art class from the JH came to visit a group of kindergarteners and created a “creature” on paper. The Advanced Art students took those drawing and brought them to life in sculpture. Today when Central Kindergarten visited the District Art show, they got to see their creations! You can come see them too on Thursday from 5-7 in the HS Auditorium Foyer!
