This past week a couple of members of the Equine Program faculty; Dr. Rafael Martinez and Bobbie Walton, along with a few students; Cooper Leather, Laci Heiner and Riley Pirkle, had the opportunity to travel to Sweden representing Tarleton State University and serve as instructors for a horsemanship camp. The camp was hosted by the Swedish Quarter Horse Association and supported through the American Quarter Horse Association.

Dr. Martinez summed the experience up very well with the following thoughts and perspective:

"The week became a true exchange of knowledge. Together, we shared discussions and hands on instruction in horsemanship, riding techniques, bit functionality, judging, showmanship mindset, roping, leather tooling, and one of our students even led an impromptu farrier workshop. Every activity, whether we were teaching or learning, had the same goal: enhancing horsemanship. At the same time, we learned just as much from our Swedish hosts. Our students gained firsthand insight into how another culture incorporates horses into everyday life, picked up a little Swedish along the way, and built friendships that will last well beyond this trip. By the end of the week, despite coming from different countries and speaking different native languages, we realized we all spoke the same language: horsemanship.

One of the most rewarding aspects of the trip was watching our students step into leadership roles. They were well prepared to share their knowledge, but just as eager to learn from others. Experiences like this broaden perspectives, build confidence, and reinforce that education extends far beyond the classroom.

Thank you to the American Quarter Horse Association for investing in educational outreach and creating opportunities that connect horsemen and horsewomen around the world."

Finally, a very special thank you to the Swedish Quarter Horse Association for the hospitality and opportunity! The memories and new friendships will forever be cherished! Tills vi ses igen!
