The Tarleton State University College of Education's Primary and Secondary Teacher Education Program (TEP) features teacher residencies for every teacher candidate that graduates and now has a federally registered teacher apprenticeship program (also residency based). We're the first public university in the state to offer both program options to all students and abandon the antiquated traditional and alternative certification models. After our submitted application is accepted by TEA, Tarleton's COE TEP graduates will also be the first to earn the newly approved (2024) enhanced teaching certificate, signifying our candidates meet the highest standard of teacher preparation the state has to offer.

Enrollment in teacher-preparation programs is still about 45 percent lower than in 2010, but there are signs it’s rebounding. Some experts credit a spate of efforts to make getting a teaching degree more affordable.

A curriculum and instruction master's graduate and tonight's commencement speaker, Sidne made us all proud to be Tarleton Texans! Her goal is to get a doctorate and give back to the institution that gave her and so many others a chance to change the lives of so many. Congratulations, Sidne!

Returning to school after raising three kids isn't an easy challenge. Sidne Erwin didn't let the intimidation stop her. At 6 p.m. Friday, she will deliver the commencement speech before receiving her master's degree.

Because of yesterday's testimony provided by Dr. Joshua Jones, Educator Preparation Services Director, the State Board of Education just approved every change to chapter 230 and 228 that TEA recommended to ensure Tarleton Teacher Residents will now receive the brand new ***ENHANCED*** Teacher Certification approved for residency-based programs in Texas! Thank you Dr. Jones! Your leadership has inspired the changes all Education Preparation Programs needs in this state!
