We are incredibly proud of this group of students. The National Leadership Conference was filled with unexpected disappointments. Due to an unintentional human error, the Parliamentary Procedure Team did not advance to the finals round, thus they did not have the chance to compete for a spot in the top 10.

This team meets from October through May to study, present, and perfect their parliamentary skillset. They have poured countless hours into the Stephenson BPA program and have performed at the Regional, State, and National levels receiving numerous 1st place awards.

By no fault of their own, this year, our team did not have the opportunity to compete in finals. We appreciate Business Professionals of America’s prompt response to our concerns and their due diligence in compiling a review.

The judge of the team’s preliminary round relayed to our State Advisor that she was amazed by our team’s skills, abilities, and knowledge of parliamentary procedures, commenting that she was excited to see them the next day in finals and show the other judge how refined they are. Unfortunately, errors were made somewhere along the way and we were not listed in the finals.

We are devastated, however the results of the awards do not reflect on the team’s incredible abilities and performance.

We see this reflected in the awarding of the individual Parliamentary Procedure Concepts Open Test with the following awards:

1st-Faith Cappaert
2nd-Avy Priebe
3rd-Luke Olson
4th-Olivia Cappaert

A notable highlight of the trip was the recognition of Gabriella Putnam as an Ambassador Torch Award Recipient. Gabi worked diligently to complete the requirements for this award and we are so proud of her accomplishment!

We are grateful for the opportunity to attend the National Leadership Conference and for the many individuals and businesses from our community who contributed towards the expenses of our trip.

Many lessons have been learned. These real life experiences cause us to be reflective and grow as individuals and as a team.

How we respond to unfortunate situations like this speaks volumes and shows true character.
