💙🖤 ROLLER FAMILY — BIG NEWS FOR OUR SENIORS! 🖤💙

Rome and Quann are taking the next step in their journey with a visit to Eastern University. As seniors, they’ve led with heart, discipline, and determination — and now they’re exploring the opportunities their hard work has created.

Moments like this are a reminder of what’s possible when you stay focused, stay committed, and believe in your future. Rome and Quann continue to set the standard for what it means to be a Roller on and off the field.

To our younger players: watch their example. This is what dedication looks like. This is what preparation leads to. Your path is being built right now.

We’re proud of you, Rome and Quann. Keep pushing, keep dreaming, and keep showing the world what Roller pride looks like.

💙🖤 Once a Roller, ALWAYS a Roller! 🖤💙

Leadership Spotlight | Willie Slade Jr.
Superintendent, Steelton Highspire School District

There are leaders who arrive from afar, and there are leaders who are shaped by the very hallways they now lead. Willie Slade Jr. is the latter.

Born and raised in Borough of Steelton, a proud graduate of Steelton-Highspire Jr./Sr. High School(Class of 1988), Superintendent Slade’s appointment is more than a professional milestone; it is a full-circle moment for a community.

On January 21, 2026, following four months of service as Interim Superintendent and a unanimous vote by the Steelton-Highspire School Board, Willie Slade Jr. was officially named Superintendent of Steelton-Highspire School District.

His appointment comes at a critical time, as the district works through financial recovery status under the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
And yet, his focus remains clear: students first.

“Even though we’re a small community, we’re still an urban community… You’ve always got to keep your eyes on the prize. What can we do to help our kids move into tomorrow?”

A Career Built from the Ground Up
Superintendent Slade’s journey spans over 24 years within the Steelton-Highspire School District, but his service to youth began even earlier.

Before entering education, he worked for nine years with Dauphin County, PA, as a Juvenile Probation Officer, including:
2 years as an Intensive Drug and Alcohol Officer
7 years as one of the county’s first School-Based Probation Officers

That work placed him directly alongside at-risk youth, families, and schools, equipping him with a deep understanding of student behavior, intervention, and restorative practices.

Educational Foundation
His academic preparation reflects a steady commitment to growth and leadership:
Bachelor of Science in Administration of Justice, Penn State-Main Campus (1992)
Teaching Certificate – Wilson College (2004)
Master of Education & Principal Certification – PennWest California (2006)
Superintendent Letter of Eligibility – Shippensburg University (2017)

He did not simply rise through positions; he prepared for them.
Rising Through the District He Now Leads
His career within Steelton-Highspire demonstrates loyalty, perseverance, and earned leadership:
Long-term substitute teacher
Full-time 7th Grade World History Teacher (2004)
Civics & Local History instructor
Dean of Students (2006)
Assistant Principal (2007)
High School Principal (2009)
Director of Student Services (2012)
Assistant Superintendent (2021)
Interim Superintendent (September 2025)
Superintendent (January 2026)

Few superintendents can say they have walked nearly every hallway in their district, from classroom teacher to central administration.
Leadership During Financial Recovery
The district currently operates under financial recovery status. Under Superintendent Slade’s leadership, the district has already reduced debt by $3 million, working alongside the state-appointed recovery officer to stabilize finances while maintaining focus on instruction.

He understands that fiscal responsibility and academic excellence must go hand in hand.
Commitment Beyond the Classroom
Willie Slade Jr.’s impact extends beyond administrative titles.
Began coaching youth football in 1993
Joined the Steelton “Rollers” coaching staff in 1999
Served 21 years with the football program
Served as Athletic Director (2014–2019)
For decades, he has mentored young people not only in classrooms but on fields, in locker rooms, and in life.
He understands the heartbeat of the community because he helped shape it.

A Superintendent Who Never Left
In a time when districts often recruit leaders from outside, Steelton-Highspire chose someone who never left.
A “city kid” who grew into an educator.
A probation officer who became a mentor.
A teacher who became a principal.
A principal who became superintendent.

His story represents:
• Community loyalty
• Long-term investment in youth
• Educational leadership grounded in lived experience
• Fiscal accountability paired with student advocacy
• Belief that small districts can achieve big outcomes
This Black History Month, we celebrate Superintendent Willie Slade Jr. A leader whose life demonstrates that greatness can grow from your own backyard.
He is not just leading a district.
He is giving back to the very community that raised him.
And that is legacy in motion.

These two showed up with purpose, brought energy, and lived out the standard Coach Chis set for us — blue-collar effort, consistency, and pride in being a Roller.

They didn’t just get their work in — they made the room better.

Show up. Work hard. Lift others. Honor the legacy. That’s what this award is about, and that’s exactly what Quadir and Gideon did.

Let’s keep earning it. Week by week. Rep by rep. Roller Pride. 💪💙🤍
