As drought conditions worsen across the Yampa Basin and the West, many are looking for ways to take action. To address these challenges, Yampatika and Friends of the Yampa invite you to a short film screening and expert panel discussion titled Stories of a Changing Watershed. This evening offers a retrospective look at river management through three vital lenses: ranching, recreation, and ecology and will explore how awareness, connection, and collaboration remain our most powerful tools for protecting our rivers.
Join us for this engaging conversation as we celebrate the integrity of our river system and the community efforts that keep it flowing. This event will include a Question & Answer period at the end. The price of admission will include one drink ticket (alcoholic or non-alcoholic) and popcorn.
The two films that will be showcased are:
🎥 Borne of Water: Follow the journey of Tiyo, a young Hopi boy, as he traverses the Colorado River amidst intense drought to save his village.
🎥 A River's Reckoning: Discover the opportunities for creative water conservation strategies by following the story of 5th-generation rancher Paul Bruchez leads a coalition of ranchers and environmentalists to restore the Upper Colorado River.
Our panelists include:
💧 Belle Zars: A writer and historian who has charted the history of the Ute and homesteaders in Routt County and is the grand-daughter of Ferry Carpenter.
💧 Eugene Buchanan: Renowned outdoor writer, author of "Yampa Yearnings," and a former river guide with 25 years of experience covering the world’s waterways.
💧 Our very own Lindsey Marlow: Executive Director of Friends of the Yampa, bringing a background in environmental policy, hydrology, and advocacy.
