As we get settled back into school routines, Wolfie has a friendly reminder to LABEL all of your belongings that come to school, especially if you'd like them back. (We always check to see if items are labeled before we bag up our Lost and Found, and we save them and make sure it gets back to the owner if it is indeed labeled!) So labeling DOES help!!!

5th Grade Takes Learning Outdoors!
5th Grade Camping Trip-Part 2

Our 5th graders took their learning outside the classroom during an unforgettable overnight camping adventure! Students practiced teamwork, independence, and problem-solving while spending time together in the great outdoors. They challenged themselves on a ropes course, explored nature on a hike, and learned valuable camping and outdoor skills along the way.

This trip was also an opportunity for students to face and overcome fears. For some, it was their first night away from home, their first sleepover, or even their first camping trip. Others pushed themselves to conquer a fear of heights on the ropes course. With encouragement from friends and teachers, students discovered that they could do hard things, step outside their comfort zones, and accomplish more than they thought possible.

Students also learned what it means to be responsible stewards of the outdoors. They set up their own tents, washed their own dishes, and practiced Leave No Trace principles, learning that taking care of the environment is everyone’s responsibility. These hands-on experiences helped build independence and confidence while teaching skills they can carry with them long after the trip is over.

From stepping outside their comfort zones to encouraging one another through new challenges, our 5th graders built confidence, created memories, and strengthened friendships. It was an adventure filled with learning, laughter, teamwork, independence, and plenty of fun!

Our 5th grade crew had an amazing first day! They arrived and were greeted and welcomed by the camp hosts, and set up camp. The students worked so well together to set up the tents, and everyone was successful!

Some of the crew completed the high ropes course, where they quickly learned about comfort zones and what it means to push themselves. The other half of the crew went on a waterfall hike and were able to enjoy the beautiful nature environment.

The amazing parent chaperones treated everyone to a delicious meal of walking tacos, and everyone walked away with a full belly! After dinner, kids and adults enjoyed some evening entertainment (skits and jokes) around their evening circle. The sounds of kids laughing echoed throughout the campground. ❤️
They were also treated to a really cool moonrise that evening…(everyone was too exhausted to stay up for the eclipse)!

After such a full day, everyone prepared for bed and got tucked into their tents, ready for some much-needed sleep before another full day of high ropes and hiking.

We are so proud of this amazing crew of kids! They are kind, compassionate, full of energy, and an absolute ton of fun!

Our third annual 5th Grade Camping Trip is underway! Our fifth grade campers have packed up, loaded the bus, arrived, set up tents, and have begun their team building activities! Half the group is on a hike, and the other group is participating in the high ropes challenge!

STUFFED ANIMAL DONATIONS NEEDED!

As silly as it might sound, stuffed animals are a HUGE hit at our Middle School Fall Festival! ...And we need your help stocking up for one of our favorite games!

Have a stuffed animal (or a few!) that has been sitting around the house looking for a new home? We’ll happily take them off your hands!

All sizes welcome
Bring as many as you’d like! We'll take 1 or 100!

Drop them off at the Strawberry Park Elementary front office with Ms. Kaley, or at the SSMS front office.

Help us fill our game with cuddly critters and make Fall Festival extra fun! Thank you for helping make this event a hit!

A book tasting is a fun elementary-school activity designed to help kids sample lots of books quickly—almost like going to a restaurant and tasting different foods. The goal is to expose students to books, authors, and genres they might not normally choose on their own.

Our 5th grade teachers turned the classroom or library into a little “book café.” Tables had tablecloths, menus, flowers, battery candles, and signs, and books are arranged at different tables by genre or theme.

Students rotated from table to table. At each “course,” they spent about 5–10 minutes with a book. They looked at the cover, read the description, read the first few pages, and then recorded whether the book interested them.

For example, the tables could be Mystery, Adventure, Fantasy, Graphic Novels, Historical Fiction, Realistic Fiction, and Nonfiction. Students might have a little “tasting menu” where they write the title, give it 1–5 stars based on their first impression, and mark “Want to read,” “Maybe,” or “Not for me.”
