The Virginia Women’s Institute for Leadership develops your leadership skills and builds character and competence. For four years you will live and learn in a demanding environment where truth, duty, and honor are governing standards. Your commitment to the program is a commitment to demand the best from yourself, to fully use the experiences and resources available to you, and to value and respect the community that you have joined. When you leave the Virginia Women’s Institute for Leadership, you will be skilled as a leader, prepared as a citizen soldier, and inspired to achieve a balance in the way you live as an intellectual, spiritual, social, and physical being. You will be determined to attain your goals and to surmount any gender-related barriers you may encounter. You will know yourself well; you will appreciate collaboration; you will take pride in your achievement and in the achievements of others; you will become part of a powerful network of women who are dedicated to their careers, families, and communities. The Institute expects you, as a graduate of the program, to make significant contributions in business, civic, or voluntary organizations, government, in the military or international affairs. As a VWIL woman, you will inspire responsible action in a revolutionized world.

VWIL ANNOUNCES NEW COMMANDANT!

Mary Baldwin University is proud to welcome retired U.S. Marine Corps Maj. Gen. Julie Nethercot as the next Commandant of Cadets for the Virginia Women’s Institute for Leadership (VWIL) and Senior Advisor to the President!

We look forward to welcoming Maj. Gen. Nethercot to our community as she begins this exciting new chapter in VWIL’s legacy of leadership, service, and excellence.

Building stronger, more knowledgeable, and well-rounded cadets through Armed Drill, VWIL Corps knowledge, and R***e PT. Each month, our nULLs put their discipline, teamwork, and physical strength to the test while continuing to grow within the VWIL Corps of Cadets.

We finish the day by celebrating achievement and excellence through our Awards Ceremony, recognizing cadets for their accomplishments in academics, PT, and other areas of outstanding performance. 🎖️🏆

Five days. Countless challenges. One Corps.

Cadre Week officially welcomed the VWIL Class of 2030 — our nULL Class! From early-morning PT and teamwork to unarmed and armed drill, Corps Values, specialty teams, the nULL line, class systems, and platoon training, our nULLs were challenged to learn, grow, and lead together.

Throughout every step, our VWIL Cadre were there to instruct, motivate, challenge, and guide the Class of 2030 as they began their journey into the Corps.

We closed out the week with a hike to Gypsy Park, joined by members of the Mary Baldwin community — a perfect reminder that VWIL is about more than training; it’s about building connections, supporting one another, and becoming part of something bigger than yourself.
