🌿 We would like to thank all the partners, contributors, and staff that gathered at Bessie Weller Elementary to celebrate the completion of the Virginia Outdoors Foundation Get Outdoors (GO) Fund grant that helped launch and build the Weller Woods Learning Trail!
Over the past four years, the wooded property adjacent to the school has been transformed into an interactive outdoor learning space through the vision, generosity, and hard work of our community. Local businesses, nonprofit organizations, state agencies, community members, families, educators, and countless volunteers have all contributed time, materials, expertise, plants, funding, and enthusiasm to help bring Weller Woods to life. 💚
We are truly grateful to the Virginia Outdoors Foundation and to all of the partners and volunteers who have helped make this project possible. The trail has quickly become a treasured place for Bessie students and staff alike!
And while we have accomplished a lot, the work—and the adventure—continues! The investigation stations, gathering spaces, habitat enhancements, and other features of Weller Woods will continue to grow and evolve through ongoing care, creativity, and community support.
We invite you to come experience Weller Woods for yourself! The trail is open to the community after 3:00 p.m. until dark on weekdays and anytime on weekends.
