🎉 We are so excited to announce that N.B. Mills Elementary has met expected growth according to North Carolina’s school accountability measure!

We are incredibly proud of our students for their determination and progress. Thank you to our families for your continued support and partnership, we truly could not do this without you!

Beginning this week, N.B. Mills is kicking off our first Attendance Competition of the year!

Last year, our Huskies improved chronic absenteeism by 5%, and this year we’re ready to keep that momentum going! 🐾

Each week, every grade level with 95% attendance or better will earn an 🍦 ice cream scoop on our attendance board. After 10 weeks, the grade level with the most scoops will celebrate with an ICE CREAM PARTY! 🎉🍨

Families, you can help your child’s grade earn those scoops by making every school day count!

Good Evening Husky Families!
We have an exciting addition to our NB family! Tomorrow, we are welcoming Mrs. Cardwell as our new Assistant Principal. We are excited to have her join our team and look forward to all she will bring to NB. Mrs. Cardwell will oversee buses, discipline, and testing. If you have questions, concerns, or need assistance related to any of these areas, please reach out to her.

Back to School Breakfast!
Our PTO is hosting their annual Back to School Breakfast on Friday from 8am-9am. All forms and money are due Wednesday.

One Week Until Intersession!
We have officially made it to the last week before intersession break! As a reminder, there will be no school for students or staff during intersession, and there will be no camps. We hope everyone enjoys the break and has an opportunity to rest and recharge!

🚌 Bus Rider Families
Please take a few minutes this week to review our bus expectations with your student. These expectations are in place to ensure the safety of all students and drivers.

Students should:
-Remain seated in their assigned seat.
-Keep their hands, feet, and belongings to themselves.
-Use an appropriate voice level.
-Follow the directions of the bus driver and school staff.
Please remind your child that these expectations are safety measures, not simply rules. Safe behavior on the bus helps protect every student.

Bus consequences progress as follows:
-Warning
-1-day bus suspension
-3-day bus suspension
-5-day bus suspension
-7-day bus suspension
-10-day bus suspension
Removal from the bus for the remainder of the school year

We appreciate your partnership in helping us keep our buses safe for everyone!

🚗 Car Rider Families
Please be sure to follow the designated car rider line and do not send students across the crosswalks on their own. This is an important safety measure, as our Pre-K line and K-5 line are operating at the same time. Following the established traffic pattern helps us keep students and families safe during arrival and dismissal.

⏰ Arrival Reminder
Families who arrive after 7:20 a.m. must bring their student into the office and sign them in. Please plan accordingly so that your child can begin the school day safely and on time.

Good Evening Husky Families,

As we move into Week 4, we are excited to continue building on the strong start to the school year! Our classrooms are now well into their routines, and we are diving into instruction with urgency and purpose. Our teachers are working hard to make the most of every instructional minute and ensure our students are engaged, learning, and growing each day.

We are also wrapping up beginning-of-year testing and assessments. This information helps our teachers better understand each child's strengths and areas for growth so that we can provide targeted instruction and support throughout the year.

🚗 Car Rider Safety Reminder
Please remember that all drop-off and pick-up must take place through the designated car rider line.

For everyone's safety, please do not send students across the parking lot or roadway to meet you. This creates a serious safety hazard and also slows down the car rider process for everyone.

We appreciate your help in keeping our students safe and making arrival and dismissal as smooth and efficient as possible!

📅 Planning Ahead
A few important reminders as we look ahead:

The week of September 7th: There will be no school for students or staff. Please plan accordingly and enjoy the extended break with your family!
October Intersession Week/Camps: Please be aware that any office write-ups beginning this Monday will prevent students from attending our October Intersession Week/Camps. Please see the attached information for more details regarding the expectations and eligibility requirements.
