Ms. Blackmon's class has been diving deep into the amazing world beneath the waves! 🌊💙 Our little ocean explorers have been learning all about coral reefs, sea life, and our favorite ocean friends—sea turtles! 🐢

From discovering how coral reefs provide a home for so many incredible creatures to learning about the life cycle and importance of sea turtles, we’ve had so much fun exploring the ocean without ever leaving our classroom! 🪸🐠🐙

Scientific Method in Action! 🧪🪙

Today, Mrs. Nevins’ class put their Scientific Method skills to the test with a fun and engaging coin lab! 🔬

Throughout the past week, students have been learning to identify and understand the different processes of the Scientific Method. Today, they took their learning into action by visiting Mr. Holbrook’s science lab and practicing each step through hands-on investigation.

We love seeing our Hornets learning, collaborating, making predictions, and putting their scientific thinking to work! 🐝💚💛

🔬 Science in Action in 5th Grade! 🧪

Mrs. Byers’ 5th grade class conducted their first science lab of the year this week, putting the steps of the Scientific Method into action!

Students made reasonable predictions, developed hypotheses, collaborated with their partners, and tested how many drops of water a penny and a nickel could hold before spilling over. 💧🪙

The students were highly engaged as they worked together to determine whether their hypotheses were correct. Tomorrow, they’ll continue with Part 2 of the lab and carry out the next steps in their investigation!

Even better, our Hornets are already expressing their excitement and eagerness for weekly labs. When students are this excited about science, it makes a teacher’s heart happy! 💚💛

We can’t wait to see what they discover next! 🐝🔬

Mrs. Morrison’s class put their coordinate plane skills to the test with a fun game of Coordinate Plane Battleship! Students practiced plotting and identifying coordinates while working strategically with their classmates.

Weekly Update #3

Good evening, Celeste families!
It’s your principal, Frank Saraco, with the Weekly Updates.
Our third graders will take the Beginning-of-Grade Assessment on Thursday, August 27. Please make sure your child gets plenty of rest and arrives at school on time and ready to do their best.
Students in grades K–3 will also begin their mClass assessments this week.
Car Rider Families: We know safety is important, and we appreciate your help as we work to make dismissal as efficient as possible.

- Please display your car name placard on the driver’s side of your vehicle. If you don’t have one, please reach out to your child’s teacher, and we will print one for you.
- If your child needs assistance buckling themselves in after being loaded, please pull forward and park along the grass or in front of the school before helping them. We also encourage you to practice buckling at home over the weekend. Our students are capable—they always rise to the occasion!

As everyone becomes more familiar with the dismissal routine, the line will continue to move more quickly, and our goal is to have dismissal completed by 2:35 p.m.
Thank you for your patience, partnership, and help in keeping our dismissal process safe and efficient.
It’s Week 3, and we’re gearing up to Chase Greatness in our attitude, character, friendships, and learning!

5th Grade Science Is Off to a Great Start! 🧪🔬🐝

It’s been a fantastic start to the 2026–2027 school year for our 5th graders! Our students have come to class ready to learn, explore, and engage. Last week, students began their science journey by learning about the history of lab coats, famous scientists, and important science and reading vocabulary while practicing how to apply information from text.

Then came a very special surprise! On Thursday, Professor Snickerdoodle stopped by 5th grade to collaborate with our teachers and students during a Science/Reading lesson. And believe it or not, he just happens to be the twin brother of our awesome TA, Mr. Holbrook! Imagine that! 😄

Professor Snickerdoodle was visiting family and friends all the way from Berlin University in Germany, and we were lucky enough to have him spend some time with our 5th graders. He was incredibly impressed by the knowledge and understanding students demonstrated after just two days of science instruction. He was especially excited to see the strong learning happening across all of our 5th grade classrooms!

Professor Snickerdoodle says he’ll be back to visit Celeste Henkel again soon… and students, you never know when that might be! 👀

So, as we get ready to dive into our first-quarter science vocabulary, remember:

Getting to Know Our New Classmates! 🐝
