George Washington’s sword just got an Eagle-engineered upgrade 🦅⚔️

To celebrate America’s 250th, our engineering students forged an iconic piece of history using modern liquid metal simulation and molten steel. Will it survive the Cast in Steel brutal durability trials? 🪵🔨

Watch the season premiere TOMORROW, July 9 at 8 PM ET! 👉 youtube.com/

Grit. Spit. And a relentless symphony of grinding steel. ⚔️

This was not merely a metalworking project, it was a crucible where centuries-old tradition collided with modern innovation! Last year, the forge fires burned white-hot as three incredibly talented teams of GS students stepped into the arena for the legendary Cast in Steel Competition.

Their mission: To recreate one of George Washington’s swords! Armed with boundless creativity, razor-sharp skill and sheer determination (and maybe a little duct tape), our Eagles poured their souls into the metal. Now, the sparks are about to fly on screen.🔥

Watch our talented metal masters in action as the official Cast in Steel competition premieres July 9 at 8 PM Eastern Time! Catch the ultimate metalcasting action unfold and support our teams directly on the Cast in Steel YouTube Channel.

That’s a wrap on the GEECC Eagle Engineering & Computing Camp! ⚙️

Last week, we welcomed the next generation of engineers to Georgia Southern University. Spending time at both our Armstrong and Statesboro campuses, these talented high school students immersed themselves in a collegiate-level STEM environment.

From programming Arduino circuits and coding Sphero Bolt robots to exploring cybersecurity and Metal Casting (foundary), they tackled every challenge with creativity and determination.

Thank you to our faculty, students, volunteers and especially our amazing campers for making this week an unforgettable success. We can’t wait to see where your engineering journeys take you! 🦅

Inspiring the next generation of innovators! 🛠️

The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Savannah Section (IEEE Region 3) was proud to support the Savannah Engineering Academy summer program. Through hands-on engagement and mentorship, we loved introducing brilliant young minds to real-world engineering and emerging technologies.

A huge shoutout to the incredible organizers, educators and volunteers who made it all possible: Prof. Priya Thamburaj Goeser, Mr. Christopher Hardy, Mr. Sushil Paudel, and Ms. Esther Omoyiwola. 🙌

Together, we are building a strong STEM pipeline and advancing technology for our community and beyond⚡️
