'First Flight' thrills take to the sky "Thrill of the First Flight," a nonprofit organization founded by Vietnam War fighter pilot and retired corporate aviator John Ratcliff, took "future aviators" in third through 12th grade on brief flights Saturday, May 16, as part of a family event at the Statesboro-Bulloch County Airport.

First Flight Statesboro welcomed over 118 young aviators, and the excitement on their faces said everything.

We are deeply grateful to our partners, the Statesboro-Bulloch County Airport and Lowcountry Flight Company for helping make this day possible. Thank you as well to Civil Air Patrol - Statesboro Squadron GA451, Fly Corps Aviation, Bulloch County Fire, EMS, and AirEvac for your support.

Our vendors, Say Squeeze, The Freeze Pop, LLC, Larry Hobbs BBQ, and El Amigo, kept everyone refreshed and well‑fed, and we appreciate you.

Our volunteer pilots also deserve special recognition. Their generosity, skill, and passion for aviation are what bring First Flight to life. Each pilot contributed their time, their aircraft, and their expertise to give every child an unforgettable experience in the sky. We are grateful for every single one of them.

And to our event volunteers: your dedication is the heartbeat of First Flight. You show up, you give your time, and you make magic happen. We could not do any of this without you.

Join us at the Statesboro-Bulloch County Airport for a fun, family‑friendly day of flying from 9 AM–2 PM (check‑in opens at 8:45).

✅ First‑Come, First‑Served Flights — No need to arrive right at 9!
✅ Food Vendors On‑Site — Registered participants receive a food token at check‑in.
✅ Free Parking — Volunteers will guide you on arrival.
✅ Bring: Signed waiver, sunscreen, sunglasses, and chairs (limited seating).

First Flight - Georgia Welcome to First Flight Georgia (Thrill of the First Flight), where aviation dreams take flight! We inspire youth to explore the skies with free orientation flights, dedicated mentorship, and opportunities to apply for flight training scholarships.

Tomorrow’s the day!

We still have a few final slots available. Youth ages 8–19 must register to fly, but the event is open to the entire community to come watch the airplanes and learn more about aviation.

If you’re registered to fly, you may arrive for your flight any time between 9:00 AM and 1:00 PM.

It’s going to be a hot day, so please wear sunscreen, stay hydrated, and bring a chair, sunglasses, and a hat to stay comfortable.

Thrill of the First Flight hopes to inspire aviation dreams during Statesboro event First Flight is open to kids from ages 8-18. Organizers say participants will learn about careers in aviation and have the chance to experience flight.
