After a four-year hiatus, Georgia Southern students returned to St. Catherines Island in November, 2023. This was an important milestone as our geology program has had a presence on St. Catherines for nearly 30 years. On this trip, Drs. James Reichard and Kelly Vance brought some geology majors to the island where they learned firsthand about our decade-long research on the island's hydrogeology, structure and stratigraphy. The students also got to see St. Catherines' famous ring-tailed lemurs, which are native to Madagascar and part of the island's captive breeding program for endangered species.

Welcome to the School of Earth, Environment & Sustainability at Georgia Southern (SEES), where you can explore education and careers in Environmental Science, Geography, Geology, and Sustainability Science. In addition to the undergraduate degree in Geosciences (concentration in Geography or Geology), SEES is unique in offering Georgia's only undergraduate sustainability science degree, preparing students to address critical environmental challenges. SEES also offers Masters degrees in Applied Geography and Environmental Science, and the only PhD in Environmental Science in Georgia.
