Greetings, Bulloch County Schools parents:

On behalf of our eight Board of Education members, allow me to thank each of you for your seen and unseen support of your children and our schools.

As we begin week two, we look forward to continuing our partnership with you to support student learning, growth, and well-being. I commend our classroom teachers, administrators, and all who contribute to the safe, orderly, and welcoming environments within our schools.

Please remind students to let their brilliance shine through the positive choices they make each day.

Both home and school provide important opportunities for students to learn to follow expectations, make good decisions, and develop life skills that will serve them well beyond the classroom.

Together, with your support, we will create even more opportunities for student success as One Bulloch!

School Nutrition is Heart Work! Today, Franklin's Farm delivered a load of 130 watermelons to our warehouse. We will be serving up this fresh fruit favorite as part of our lunch menu on August 11.

Did you know that this Georgia is known as a fruit and a vegetable? They are 92% water, so they're a great way to stay hydrated.

What's your favorite way to enjoy watermelon? Sliced, in a fruit salad, in a salad with feta cheese?

Students' presence at school is our purpose. We encourage families to make regular, on-time school attendance a priority and strive for five or fewer absences this school year.

Chronic absenteeism is missing 10% or more of a school year which is about 18 days or two days per month for any reason, including excused or unexcused absences. Last school year 20.3% of Bulloch County Schools' students were chronically absent. While family engagement and school district interventions have brought this percentage down considerably over the past few years from a high of 28.4% in 2022, levels have not returned to their lowest levels of 8.9% in 2020.

School Nutrition is heart work! Our staff prepared and served 6,986 meals for students yesterday. That number will steadily increase over the first 10 days of school. Last year we averaged serving 10,307 meals per day and served more than 1.8 million meals during the school year.

Today, as part of our breakfast menu, we were proud to serve Sausage Kolaches from Hunter Cattle Company, one of Bulloch County's local farms.

Attend a Parent Night at your child's school Aug. 18 through Sept. 22. Connect with teachers, explore classroom resources, and discover simple ways to support your child’s success all year long​ when you attend Bulloch County Schools' annual Parent Nights, which will be held at the district's Title 1 schools in August and September. Thirteen of our 15 schools are Title 1 schools. Statesboro High and Southeast Bulloch High are not Title 1 schools.
