Meet Mary Kate Standard Combs, a member of Phi Mu Kappa Mu Fall 2012 from Buford, GA! Check out her Q&A about her Phi Mu experience!

Q: “What’s your favorite memories from being an active member?”
A: Bringing our mattresses into the chapter room and having sleepovers and watching movies on the big screen 💕 Along with karaoke using the chapter room projector!

Q: “Tell us about someone who you met as an active member that has played an important role in your life.”
A: “This one’s too hard because everyone I met changed my life! Overall, being on the Executive Committee truly helped prepare me for adult life and my job. Being able to work together for the betterment of our chapter along with living in the house with other exec leaders was an amazing experience.”

Q: “What's your favorite thing about being a Phi Mu alum?”
A: “Running into other Kappa Mu Alumna and genuinely having a connection that brings me straight back to those pink walls and leopard carpets! So much nostalgia!”

This week Phi Mu Kappa Mu is celebrating its 55th Initiation! We are excited to be welcoming over 70 new members into and also want to celebrate the many inspirational women that have come before them! Pictured is the Pledge Class of Fall 2015, almost 8 years ago on the night of their initiation!

Meet Meg Chandler DeLoach, Phi Mu Kappa Mu Pledge Class of 1999!

“I am a native of Statesboro, Ga and reside in Glennville, GA with my husband, David and our family. In the Fall of 1999, I had the honor of pledging Phi Mu at Georgia Southern University!

My 5 years as an active member of our Kappa Mu Chapter were filled with so many memories that I cherish! Thoughts of date nights, dressing up for themed socials, formals, sisterhood events, Doodah, Derby Days, Schenkel Invitational, living in the Phi Mu house for 2 years, rush, initiation, and helping raise money for Children’s Miracle Network all flood my mind. I am so thankful for the relationships and the bond I built with so many of my sisters. Though not always near, these friendships have remained important in my life!

One particular sister that has played a huge role in my life is Mandy Payne Johnson. Little did we know as we sat through nursing school together at GSU and enjoyed being Phi Mu sisters, God was preparing a friendship that would be so special in the future. Mandy has been such a role model in my life as she has faced huge challenges with faith, perseverance, and grace. We have stood beside each other during our weddings, shared our joys and our sorrows, and been “Aunt” to each others children. We love to get our families together at Paulson Stadium and cheer on our Eagles!!

This past August, I got to experience the best part of being a Phi Mu alum which was running to hug my daughter, Mary Chandler, as she received her bid from Phi Mu. Watching her fall in love with the same sisterhood that I hold so close to my heart was super special.
I am so thankful that we get to share the true meaning, spirit and reality of Phi Mu together.”

Meet a member of Phi Mu Kappa Mu Pledge Class of Fall 2017 from Statesboro, GA!

“My favorite memory from my days as an active member of Phi Mu has to be bid day. The feeling of opening your bid card and running to your new home to be welcomed, supported, and loved on by all your new sisters is so indescribable.

I feel so grateful for all the friendships and connections I got to make during my experience in Phi Mu. It’s so hard to think of just one person who plays an important role in my life, but my big, Sarah Louise Mims, and my little, Alana Brannen, made my college experience so much fun and so much sweeter! They are both just as beautiful inside as they are on the out (which says a lot!), and they are two of the best people I know hands down!

My favorite part of being a Phi Mu alumni is getting to make a deeper connection with so many women in the Statesboro area and getting to feel like I’m still apart of something bigger than myself.
