A WAY, NOT THE WAY.

One of the things I tell students constantly is this:

What I am teaching you is a way, not THE way.

There are usually multiple valid ways to solve a problem. Different people, equipment, environments, body types, and circumstances can all change what works best.

That is why the “WHY” matters.

If an instructor tells you to do something but cannot explain why you are doing it, what problem it solves, what tradeoff it creates, and when it may stop working, then you may be learning a technique that only survives inside the classroom.

Real-world use is less forgiving.

The same applies when you train yourself.

Do not just repeat a movement because you saw it online, learned it in a class, or have always done it that way.

- Every detail should have a reason.
- Every repetition should have a purpose.

Training is not about collecting techniques. It is about building understanding that allows you to adapt when conditions are no longer ideal.

Learn the how.

More importantly, learn the why.

2-DAY TACTICAL MEDICINE I / TECC

If you carry concealed, this is one of those classes that should be high on your training list.

On October 3-4, 2026, Apex Defense Group is hosting a 2-Day Tactical Medicine I / TECC course built for responsible citizens who want the skills to respond when serious injuries happen.

This class is for ALL civilians. A medical emergency may come from a vehicle accident, chainsaw injury, range incident, defensive encounter, or countless other situations where professional help may not be immediately available.

CARABINER-CLIPPED GOLF TOWELS AREN’T JUST FOR GOLF.

One of the little things I keep with my range gear is a golf towel with a carabiner clipped to it.

It’s simple, cheap, and surprisingly useful.

I use mine for wiping down hands, cleaning up sweat, knocking dust or debris off gear, drying off equipment, wiping down a bench, and handling all the little range messes that seem to come up during a training day.

The carabiner makes it easy to clip onto a range bag, belt loop, cart, or other gear so it stays where I can get to it instead of disappearing into the bottom of a bag.

Not every useful piece of range gear has to come from the fi****ms aisle.

Sometimes the golf section gets it right.

BEFORE YOU CLICK “SIGN IN WITH GOOGLE, FACEBOOK, OR APPLE”

Using a major account to sign in to another website or app is convenient.

It can also quietly create a web of connected access that you may forget about over time.

Every time you use “Sign in with Google,” “Sign in with Facebook,” “Sign in with Apple,” or a similar option, you may be granting that service access to parts of your primary account.

Depending on the service, that can include your name, email address, profile information, or other permissions you approved when you first connected it.

The problem is not necessarily using single sign-on.

The problem is forgetting what you connected.

Take a few minutes and review the apps and services linked to your primary accounts.

Remove anything you no longer use.

Pay attention to what permissions each service has.

Be cautious about connecting your primary identity account to low-trust or unfamiliar websites.

And if a service is compromised, review whether that connection should be revoked.

Your main email or identity account is often the center of your digital life.

Treat every connection to it like a key you are handing out.

Convenience is useful.

Visibility and control are better.

DARK COMES EARLIER. YOUR SECURITY ROUTINE SHOULD NOTICE.

As the days get shorter, many of us are arriving home, walking to vehicles, checking mail, or closing up businesses in lower light than we were just a few weeks ago.

That change matters.

Take a few minutes to look at your normal routine after dark instead of assuming it works the same way it did in daylight.

Check your exterior lighting.

Look for burned-out bulbs, dark approach paths, heavy shadows, and areas where bright lights actually create glare instead of useful visibility.

Pay attention to where you park and how you approach your vehicle.

Keep entryways clear enough to see who or what is around them.

Make sure family members know where flashlights are and what to do if something seems out of place. And, replace the batteries, or charge your on-person admin light that you SHOULD be carrying with you at all times.

And most importantly, avoid moving through familiar spaces on autopilot.

Preparedness does not mean expecting trouble.

It means recognizing when conditions change and adjusting before those changes become problems.

Baseline. Anomaly. Decision.
