Who are the guys at Mining Ridge Armory? We are a team of well trained, lifelong fans of the fi****ms industry. Our experiences range from Law Enforcement and Military, to Hunting and basic Armorer skills. All of us have "day jobs", but devote as much of our free time as possible to enriching other's lives with the joys of firearm sportsmanship. We maintain a solid network of several team members

A FAMILIAR VOICE IS NO LONGER PROOF

A phone call may sound exactly like someone you love. A video message may show their face, expressions, and mannerisms.

That still does not guarantee it is really them.

Modern scammers can use publicly available audio, photographs, and video to create convincing impersonations, often paired with urgency:

“I’m in trouble.”
“Don’t tell anyone.”
“I need money right now.”

The answer is not paranoia. It is a family plan made BEFORE emotions take control.

Choose a private challenge phrase that every trusted family member knows. Make it memorable, unrelated to personal details, and never post or casually share it online. Consider creating a separate distress phrase that quietly communicates: SOMETHING IS WRONG. FOLLOW OUR PLAN!

When an unexpected call or video creates doubt:

Pause. Ask for the challenge phrase. End the communication if necessary. Then contact the person through a number or account you already know is theirs.

A familiar voice can trigger an emotional response. A prepared process creates space for judgment.

- Mindful decisions made during calm conditions can prevent a world of problems when the storm arrives.

SKILLSET WITHOUT ETHICS IS DANGEROUS.

Technical ability is not the same as sound judgment.

A person may be fast, accurate, physically capable, and highly practiced, but without restraint, accountability, and a clear understanding of when action is justified, those abilities can become a liability.

At MRA, skill is never trained in isolation.

- Mindset helps you recognize what is actually happening.
- Ethics governs whether intervention is lawful, necessary, and responsible.
- Skillset gives you the ability to act effectively when action is truly required.

COLD. CONCEALED. ON THE CLOCK.

Your first repetition at the range should not be your easiest, it should be your most honest.

Before warming up, rehearsing the draw, or finding your rhythm, safely run a short defensive-handgun standard from your normal concealment method. I often use a Mozambique/Failure-style drill or a five-shot 5x5x5 drill, provided the range permits drawing from concealment.

Why begin cold?

Because a real emergency will not give you practice draws, sight-confirmation repetitions, or a chance to settle in. It may develop at close range and be decided in seconds.

That first run measures what you can produce on demand:
* A safe, efficient access and draw
* Immediate visual accountability
* Fast, controlled center-mass hits
* A responsible decision to continue, or stop

My benchmark is at least three accountable A-zone hits in under two seconds, with five preferred when running the five-shot standard. It is not an ego contest. It is a diagnostic: Can you perform the most important task before you are warmed up?

Record the result. Train deliberately. Then measure again another day.

Your first repetition should tell the truth.

📦 Stop Making It Easy for Porch Pirates

Package theft is usually a crime of opportunity. The longer a delivery sits unattended, and the more predictable your routine become, the easier the target.

A few practical ways to reduce the risk:

• Enable delivery notifications and retrieve packages promptly.
• Use a locking delivery box or secure porch container.
• Direct high-value shipments to a staffed pickup location, parcel locker, or trusted neighbor.
• Position cameras to capture faces, vehicles, and the approach, not just the package itself.
• Improve porch lighting and remove landscaping that creates concealment.
• Avoid letting multiple deliveries accumulate in plain view.
• When traveling, pause shipments or arrange for someone to collect them.

Cameras can document a theft, but good planning can reduce the opportunity in the first place.

Detect the vulnerability. Commit to a better system. Own your property security.

Small Unit Tactics: The Ambush:Force on Force

Effective small-unit tactics require more than individual skill. They demand communication, coordination, planning, and the ability to operate as a cohesive team.

This Apex Defense Group course introduces students to patrol and squad-level concepts, including:

The Default Password Has Entered the Chat

A programmable logic controller can run pumps, utilities, industrial equipment, and other critical systems for years.

Apparently, that does NOT mean it should be connected directly to the internet and secured like an old Wi-Fi router.

CISA and partner agencies are warning that Iranian-affiliated cyber actors have been targeting internet-facing industrial controllers across U.S. water, energy, and government facilities—manipulating project files and control-system displays and, in some cases, causing operational disruption and financial loss. ([CISA][1])

The lesson is not complicated:

Critical infrastructure should not be one successful login away from becoming someone else’s remote-control project.

Remove unnecessary internet exposure. Put secure gateways and firewalls in front of operational technology. Require multifactor authentication for remote access. Disable default or unused authentication methods. Monitor configuration changes, and maintain tested offline backups. ([Internet Crime Complaint Center][2])
