Ok, I guess it’s about time for this kid’s first stand alone post… There are very very few individuals who are as invested and possess as much pride in SCTF and her teammates as Josi Younkin. Josi is a 3 x State High Jump Medalist, 2 x District champion, four trips to the District podium, 217 points, 4 x nationals qualifier. This kid, who as a 9th grader, literally could not hit water if she fell out a boat, would go on to jump 5-6.25 setting the SCTF High Jump record. The once gangly yet determined baby giraffe, became the graceful champion and more importantly, leader SCTF needed. It is not uncommon for team members, coaches, administrators, officials, other parents, opposing coaches, the head coach’s friends, the head coach’s family members to ask, “what are we gonna do without Josi next year.” Josi capped off her senior season with a Fifth place medal at indoor states, a district title, a Mid-Penn title, a school record, “The Anne Infield Scholarship Award”, and a most appropriate “Mathew J. Weakland Scholarship Award.” As well as many other team recognitions. But really, that’s the easy stuff, anyone can be “good”. What Josi did that was most extraordinary, was make a hugely positive impact on others and leave an indelible mark on the program! This graduate may be missed but her impact will be felt by the program for years to come.

The highest honors SCTF bestows are the Anne Infield Scholarship Awards for the Girls and The John D. Miller Scholarship Award for the Boys. Both Awards are in recognition of “Outstanding character and leadership both on and off the track and excels in academics as well as athletics.”

Anne Infield was the legendary Track & Field Coach of girls SCTF and SCXC. Anne Infield was a State Champion Coach of both individuals and teams. She is in the PTFCA Hall of Fame. She passed away far too young but her inspiration lives on actively and daily in the program. Her legacy can be seen in every aspect of the program. The Anne Infield Scholarship Award is given to a deserving senior in each Cross Country, Indoor Track & Field and Outdoor Track & Field seasons.

John D. Miller never participated in Track & Field. He was however the single biggest supporter of his grandkids’ Track & Field and XC experiences! This award holds special meaning in our program because now one of those grandkids is one of the programs biggest supporters!!! John D. Miller’s legacy lives on in the program not just in spirit but through his family. John D. Miller’s children were SCTF officials and supporters, his grandkids were SCTF/XC team members and supporters, his great grandchildren are current SCTF team members who are State Medalists and school record holders.

It is a great honor to recognize the SCTF/XC Anne Infield Scholarship Award winners and the John D. Miller Scholarship Award winner.

Tomorrow is a Royal wedding. A SCTF Royal Wedding!!!! Courtney “T-Money” Poorman ‘15 and Matt Beyrele ‘15 are tying the knot, getting married, getting hitched. TT was a very accomplished long and triple jumper for SCTF and Matt was an equally accomplished SCTF/XC distance runner. Both were incredible athletes and even better people. T-Dizzel was part of a new breed of SCTF jumper. She and her cronies ushered in a new era of SCTF Jumps that was equal parts “competitive aggression” and HILARITY! Both Courtney (T-Rex), Matt and their families embody the pinnacle of SCTF/XC! Whether raking pits, officiating or starting they have done it all. I have it on good authority the bride is hopping and bounding down the runway in good solid footwear!!! CONGRATS TeTe and Matt!!!!!!!

This freshman phenom is a multi event pursuant! Making strong headway in the vault, hurdles and jumps! Ella Raish has climbed onto the SCTF All-Time lists in both the pole vault and 100m hurdles. She is close in the jumps. She qualified for the Freshman section of both the hurdles and vault at New Balance nationals. In the vault she made to podium with her 5th place finish! Her quiet demeanor belies a competitive aggression that is readily seen when it’s go time! Big things ahead for Ella!

Under normal circumstances each of these kids would get their own post. But, there’s nothing normal about this dynamic duo. Do they have good potential? Ahh… probably… how good? Ahhh… real good… Saige Cunningham and Alyssa Woskob are two of the best freshman horizontal jumpers in SCTF history. Saige has the furthest triple jump (38-3.5) and Woskob has the furthest Long jump (17-7.5) for a SCTF 9th grader. Add to that Saige has a long jump of 17-3.5 and Woskob a triple of 36-1 and they have a good deal of promise. They are also two of the most “interesting” and nicest kids you’ll meet. Their enthusiasm for their teammates is unbridled. You will always see them cheering for teammates and each other. Rarely a day goes by where they don’t do something that borderlines on hysterical. Preferably not scooter related… Woskob was also a member of the SCTF medal winning 4x200m at the indoor state meet. Both made the podium of districts while Saige qualified for the State Championships. They both also qualified and competed in the Freshman long jump at indoor nationals and the Freshman triple jump at outdoor nationals. Where Saige made the podium with her 6th place finish. There are promising 9th graders every year. We’ll just have to wait and see if this duo can truly become dynamic! But, if I had to guess, using only one word, I would whole heartedly say, ahhh… probably…
