IIP is partnering with the Quello Center at Michigan State to present a preconference workshop titled "Taming and Nurturing the Wild Child: Government and Corporate Policies for Social Media" at the International Communication Association (ICA) Convention, on May 24, 2019 at the Washington Hilton, in Washington DC.

A competitively selected set of papers from leading academicians and budding scholars will be presented at the workshop, addressing the legal, economic, organizational and ethical dimensions of social media policy. How can policy -- defined broadly, including government policies, regulations and laws and the policies of corporations including algorithmic screening of content and emergent norms --be developed, while protecting societal values such as freedom of speech and information?
