Now enrolling! Discover a Pre-K STAR 4 program where children learn through play, outdoor exploration, and caring community.

Preparing curious minds for purposeful lives looks like students asking questions, pursuing meaningful research, and sharing what they learn with their community.

In 2nd and 3rd grade, students researched topics that sparked their curiosity, created thoughtful projects, and presented their work to the wider school community. Second grade students explored animals of their choice, studying their habitats and creating detailed dioramas to bring their learning to life before presenting their findings to others. At the same time, 3rd grade students researched influential people and stepped into the role of teacher through a Human Museum, helping the school community learn about the lives and impact of their person. These experiences help students grow not only in knowledge, but also in confidence, creativity, and purpose.

At SCFS, preparing curious minds for purposeful lives means giving students opportunities to explore real-world questions with both head and heart.

This year 4th and 5th grade students explored the UN Sustainable Development Goals, including researching the positive impact Fairtrade has on communities around the world and identifying where fair trade products can be found locally. Their learning came to life during the recent Fair Trade Fair and they wrote persuasive essays to connect global learning with local action by investigating products in our own community and thinking carefully about the power of informed consumer choices.

At State College Friends School, preparing curious minds for purposeful lives begins with hands-on, meaningful learning rooted in observation, responsibility, and wonder.

In Kindergarten and 1st grade, students are exploring the life cycles of frogs and tadpoles through close observation, nonfiction writing, and daily care for living creatures in their classroom. They are tending tadpoles collected from a local pond, gathering pond water, feeding algae and lettuce they planted themselves, and using their seasonal outdoor experiences to deepen both their scientific understanding and their writing.
