Hello Phi Tau Brothers and Little Sisters. Our fraternity brother,
Derek Dorsey, is in extremely bad shape at this moment. His medical insurance covers the cost of some of medical procedures. However, there are many procedures that he needs that are not covered by insurance, and this runs into thousand and thousands of dollars.
Derek suffers from a severe case of hyper-excitability which is being treated by a team of the top neurologist in the country from the top hospitals in the country. His team is lead by Dr. Annie Oaklander at Harvard, Dr. Delacas at Jefferson Hospital, and Dr. Christopher Klein at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. Medicaid is only covering a portion of the treatment which includes an upcoming and very complex cervical spine surgery.
Derek has a mixed neurological case which includes a severe peripheral neuropathy. The medication is costly and requires constant testing to monitor essential organs.
Derek has been well supported by his colleagues in the music industry with a series of benefit concerts and a GoFundMe page but no one, including the medical community, could have expected the rapid progression that currently made this into an incredibly dangerous situation with a risk of paralysis, stroke, and death.
The condition is so rare and severe that Botox was just approved by the FDA to be administered under anesthesia for the first time ever. Derek will be the first patient that will receive Botox under sedation because the spasms in his face are too severe and extreme.
If he can’t come up with money, the surgery will be cancelled. He has no other recourse. The pain is so severe that he goes days on end with zero sleep.
We are trying to raise money right now for Derek. Would you be able to send a gift his way? It would really be wonderful if we can pull together and help our fraternity brother in his time of need.
Thanks so much.
