Dr. Julie Tetzlaff (Associate Dean, Postdoctoral Affairs and Graduate Studies; Faculty Advisor of Catalysis BioConsulting ) and Dr. Salvatore Molina( postdoctoral fellow, Co-Manager, BioConsulting) from Medical College of Wisconsin will present about the formation, running of BioConsulting Club involving postdoctoral researchers and graduate students. They will also discuss the leadership and training experiences that the club provides and how it prepares postdocs and graduate students for careers in the industry.
This is an exciting opportunity to learn about how a grass roots club that started several years back and continues to thrive and provide consulting services to area companies as it simultaneously provides leadership, consulting, business concept training, transferable skills to the club participants.

In January 2019, the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs hosted a panel discussion about interviews and negotiation process for a faculty position. The panelists included:

Dr. Lauren McPhillips, Assistant Prof. Civil Engineering/Ag engineering
Dr. Christian Peco Regales, Assistant Prof. Engineering Science and Mechanics
Dr. Nitin Samarth, George A. and Margaret M. Downsbrough Department Head and Professor of Physics
The panel discussed various topics including preparation for interviews (Skype and in-person), questions that are asked during interviews, selection criteria, and the negotiation process.

On February 13, the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs hosted a webinar featuring Dr. Sadiye Rieder. The webinar focused on how to look for positions, getting your resume noticed, the interview process, and the day-to-day responsibilities of a typical industry scientist position and was followed by a Q&A session.

In November 2018, the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs and Happy Valley Theater hosted a 90-minute improv theater workshop focused on collaboration, problem solving, and responding to the unexpected through a variety of improv theater games and activities. The workshop helped participants improve focus and awareness when delivering job and conference presentations and practice storytelling to improve communication.

On Wednesday, February 13th at 3pm, the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs will be hosting a webinar with Dr. Sadiye Amcaoglu Rieder, an immunologist at MedImmune/AstraZeneca. The webinar will focus on the personal experiences of Dr. Rieder & finding a job within the industry. Following the webinar, Pallavi Eswara, Director, Office of Postdoctoral Affairs will present a webinar on crafting your resume for an industry scientist position.
