Drop tine buck by our boy Chris Stout. He tagged this brute over a large scrape on the first hunt on a crisp fall morning.

Throwing it back to that time I thought a huge buck was coming my way! Not quite what I was hoping for but a fun experience none the less.

I didn’t see any deer that day and this year 3 bear were hanging around, and again no deer when they were in the spot.

What’s your experience when elk and deer are using the spot you’re hunting?

This is one my favorite times of year to scout to see where the deer feel comfortable after being chased around for months.

In this situation, I'm focused on the part of the mountain that is just above a large valley of Ag but they're not consistently using the fields.

They're bedding about 2/3 up at about 1800 ft. on the northern side, and are feeding heavily there. This is where they spend most of their time, it's thick and has diverse food sources.

On this outing, I observed them eating mostly cedar and hemlock with a bit of mountain laurel and other woody brouse.

When they wander down hill, they hit the briers, grasses and more hemlock and probably a random acorn here or there.

There's one main trail that leads to up to the bedding on the north side. I need to make it around the point and see what's going on around on the south face.

I'm gonna give it a few weeks though so I don't disturb them and waste their energy... can't be much of it in a hemlock twig or a laurel leaf.

By that time, most bucks will be shed and I may get lucky!

Follow along, I'll continue to update this page with how this spot unfolds, what I learned, potential stand placement, topgraphic map analysis and of course pics from the cameras.

Happy Scouting, Leonard Out!
