The thing that is striking about this article is that the math behind the human work is fairly well explained, on the other hand, there is no attempt to explain the math behind the AI work. This goes to Terry Tao point we posted about yesterday afternoon.

OpenAI's announcement that it solved one of the great open problems in mathematics concerning the stability of the Navier-Stokes equation has sent a shockwave through the mathematics community. Many of our upcoming posts this weeks deal with this break through, and the reaction to it.

Now 25 Field Medalists, including Terry Tao an early AI enthusiast, have issued a declaration regarding the threat of AI to the development of mathematics.

We recently made a post on a Penn State Parents FB group about digital surveillance of students at Penn State. An associate dean in HHD took exception with our observations, but refused to point to any public-facing privacy policy that supported his assertion that Penn State does not track students. We are sure if one existed he would have happily posted a link to it, rather than look like someone panicked that a secret was revealed.

Anyway, our concern is not unique as this July 2025 report from the AAUP shows.

At a large university, such as Penn State, it can be hard for students to find faculty who will mentor them. One of our great pleasures over the 25 years we have been tutoring students is being given the opportunity to step in and fill that void for many of our clients.
